    Drones

Drones are like cellular trail cameras and surface drive mud motors, great innovative technology but folks are using them for scouting and hunting down here in the South. Friends of mine had a drone over them while duck hunting a federal waterfowl refuge in S Louisiana. I told them they...

To Those That Participate on FB Duck Hunting Groups

Big corporate has taken over and traditional waterfowlers / craftsmen are a dying breed. Duck hunters spend nearly $30 Billion annually on related "'stuff". It's sad to see corporate duck take over and folks prostitute waterfowl for profit. Guiding operations are the new market hunter...

    Primitive Weapon Duck Hunting

One of the best bowfishermen I know went to outboard motor school in FL. Here he is shooting divers with a slingshot. Unbelievable shot.

Marsh Stake for Staking out Boat during Tide Change

Make a Cajun Anchor. Go to Lowes and get an 8' grounding rod ($20), heat and hammer one end flat, drill a hole for an anchor shackle ($6). Spear that sucker into the mud, make two for bow and stern. For mud flats when the tide is out, does anyone use a pirogue up there? Great to push pole...

    Canadian Duck Hunt

Some of my best memories as a kid were chasing woodcock and ruffed grouse behind my uncle's house in Northern Michigan, it was paradise.. Hate to hear the birds weren't there. Gorgeous country to be kicking around in the Fall!

Looking for new way to rig decoys

I make my own using coated SS 1/16th cable and just hammer an egg weight on the end. I'll never use tanglefree or 400 # mono again. Of course in S Louisiana I think 32" is the longest line I have for my puddle ducks, early teal are 24" long, if that, so much vegetation to catch them on. lol

And so it starts, Maine 2025/26

Incredible looking country and photos! I love seeing the Delta college program! I need to see if there is anything like that here in SC. I enjoy mentoring with out Take One Make One program for kids but these college kids need hunting exposure too.

    Go Devil 1844 rounded chine

I owned a 1644 GD 20 years ago. Killed a lot of ducks from it. Great boats but I can stand and shoot from a pirogue so stability wasn't an issue for me.

    Introduction

Welcome from SC. I'm originally from MI, born in Detroit, grew up downriver but had family in Milford, Grand Blanc, Petosky, Conway, Indian River....I was a lucky city kid who spent more time in the woods and on the water than most up that way.

    Cartsen Mallard Sneak Boat

I have a Carstens Pintail which isn't much different than a Mallard. Didn't hunt out of it last season but it's a great duck boat, just heavier than my Chapman pirogue, 100 lbs vs 50 lbs. It'll carry a ton of weight and is steady to shoot from. If you're having to carry or drag the boat far...

The importance of using the correct ammunition

Roger that. I only have one 556/223 and I'm a novice at that. I'm clueless about the 300 blackout.

I'm no rifleman but how does a 308 casing fit into a 223 chamber?

    3 Pintails

It definitely seems like we keep moving the goalpost. Many hunters that are having dismal duck hunting seem to be begging for a reduction in season days and bag limits yet a "new study" indicates shooting 3 pintails won't harm the population. I know in S. Louisiana we quite possibly could...

    Summer Project

Rarely do I shoot wood ducks since I've started working duck nesting boxes many years ago. I do find joy in the thought that some youngster might one day be pulling the trigger on his/her first duck that was hatched from one of my duck boxes. Great work Ron! Please take lots of pictures of...

    Meat Grinders?

LEM hands down. My son got lucky and found a #12 LEM for $200 on FB marketplace. MEAT isn't the same quality as LEM. I use a #12 LEM and it'll go through 25lbs of meat in minutes.
