    River running in small boats....

Jet boat or airboat would be the ticket. My homemade mud boat ran super skinny but big rocks could be catastrophic to the motor or operator or boat if you hit them just right. My motor has a 1 inch shaft and heavy SS wheel but I'd still be concerned banging rocks. I pirogue now so this...

    Dove meat colors

I've always thought dark meat on a migratory bird was due to flying long distance, like a duck or goose. Light pink, less flying = local bird. The BBWD's we shoot have light pink meat due to being local ducks.

    Hurricane Idalia

Lots of hot Gulf water to suck up and strengthen this thing the longer it travels North. :(

    Hurricane Idalia

Y'all buckle down and prayers for a wet softy vs. a big nasty! I have a brother in law that just retired to FL from IL, he doesn't have a clue what a storm is like.

Kansas - Another Domino About To Fall In the Push to Reduce Non-Residents in Favor of Residents

I agree. Can't say I blame them. If I lived in a state that had ducks I'd want to keep them all to myself and control non resident competition. SC boys are going to come unhinged over this ruling. .

    Hunting Land Access

Access locally has diminished here in SC due to development, duck hunting distance restrictions and as of this past duck season a Wed / Sat only duck hunting restriction on our two National Forests which has further reduced hunter opportunity. Private land leases, clubs are ridiculously...

    Two-Tier Bag Limits Coming?

Regarding harvest data collection, I'm curious if hen vs drake harvest data is collected for the 3 bird limit. I'll have to give the podcast a listen.

    Two-Tier Bag Limits Coming?

I'm guessing this pilot two tiered option received approval from USFWS? I've been duck hunting for 45 years, if I can't ID the duck, I don't shoot the duck. Same goes for rooster pheasant, gobblers, whitetails....ID before pulling the trigger or releasing the arrow. So a fella who can't...

    Manitoba Waterfowl Regs for future

I hunted MT from 1995 until 2000. Private access was easily attainable for only a knock on the door or catching the rancher in the field and politely asking for permission. Hunting ducks, pheasant, Sharptails, Huns and Prairie Chickens was incredible. Treating the ranchers land and...

    Manitoba Waterfowl Regs for future

Perfect tactic for anti hunters to apply for Manitoba lottery licenses to keep ethical hunters from participating for 5 years. They'll do it too, definitely a bad deal for USA freelancers.

Lake eerie style boats down south

I'm in SC and used to layout shoot divers years ago here until the DNR and power company wiped out our hydrilla. We hunted out of a buddies Bankes one man layout. It wasn't a Kalash layout but it got the job done. Not sure how it'd work for Grey ducks, they're some wary suckers, maybe others...

    Dealing With Public Land Jerks

Intentionally blocking a boat ramp not allowing others access after legal access time should be deemed hunter harassment and they should be charged. The evil side of me says to pour sugar in the truck fuel tank and pull valve stems.

The Old Town 119 Penetrates the Swamp!

That's awesome Larry! I've lost count of the deer my Old Town 119 has hauled out. That's the best way to hunt a deer!

    Black Belly Whistler's

Fun duck to hunt! We seem to be more successful on foggy mornings when they fly best at shooting time vs. 30 minutes before. Numbers are building by the 1000's, prolific breeders, incredible parenting skills too! I put up duck boxes behind our camp in S Louisiana and they use them every...

    Migration Report 2022

I just got back from a week in S. Louisiana. Our aerial survey wasn't very good: "The 802,000 ducks estimated during the November 2022 survey for coastal Louisiana and Catahoula Lake was the lowest since the survey began in 1968 (Figure 1). It is 38% lower than the November 2021 estimate...

    Who Is In The Wrong?

The kids could have set up 3", 3' or 30' off the corn stubble and into the bean field....it wouldn't have mattered, the farmer (neighboring landowner) was going to make darn sure and ruin the kids and grandpa's hunt. The landowner was in the wrong blowing a gasket and harassing the hunters...

It was just 12 days ago.

I'm so sorry to see the heartbreaking news. I can only hope and pray to see my retrieving family members again in Heaven.
