I don't think the resident goose season on long island is effective. Open up the first 10 days of the season for 6 geese, close it down for the split and go back to 2 geese. You may shoot a few migrant birds, but mostly resident birds. I shot the residemt season once, never again.

Steve, I don't like to use plywood for backers. Wood gets compressed over time. I use stainless, never tried compressed glass as Eric suggested. You said there will be no load on the eyes, should be ok.

Never painted my my motors, just turned a potato bag inside out and split the bag 1/2 way up. Worked for over 20 years.

Kevin, you not be mounting the gun well while sitting. Take your cell and do a video of yourself shooting. Also try a slip on pad. The pitch could also be a problem, pitch spacer in the slip on will work. Happy hunting...

I gunned small tidal marshes with my southbay. I would use 5-6 mallard/blackducks, maybe 1-2 geese [if there were flocks around]. Match the hatch, if you see 4-5 birds in the area, copy them. Only used bigger rigs on open bays.

Use really small drill bits, drill around the shaft to releive stress. Use vise gripes to help.

Check out 3M, I think they have a self leveling silicone. Aerospace industry uses it.
