    Hoody body pattern

Thanks Don. I agree with the sentiment. A diver body has some variation but not a ton of it. I might cross a bufflehead with a red breasted merg body.

    Hoody body pattern

I’m going to do a hooded merganzer or two. We have them in my area in spades. I might take one for the wall this year. I have a head pattern. What species of birds would be similar in body size and shape? I have a pattern book with many common species.

    Pipe material

I’m going to build an inexpensive concept blind this fall. What are the cons to using galvanized conduit?

What is your most recent discovery in technique?

With your tube oils do you get the colors you need or do you have to mix them? I’m colorblind and I rely on Steve Sanfords colors pretty heavily.

That is a really nice effect!

What is your most recent discovery in technique?

I was working on a hen canvasback body today and when I picked up the bow sander I started thinking about all of the “ah ha” moments I’ve had over time. I was going to try to decide what my biggest discovery in making decoys has been. Is it Don Mintz introducing me to epoxy sculpt and 10cent...

    July Workbench

I have a couple of heads sitting in my workshop that didn’t say Can to me. And I’m using a pattern.

I’ve been on a quest to make a good Can decoy. I cave made several that were darn decent but I will say this is the first one that I am proud of. I’m generally very modest but this one is tickling my fancy. It’s not completely done but I had to pause and pour a drink.

Sadly my old girl is over 12 and spends her days laying on the ac duct in the kitchen. Her heart and lungs are good and she still greets me at the door with a toy in her mouth and a wagging tail but she has lots of arthritis and struggles on the stairs. It is really getting to be time to let go.

    Draw knife and spoke shave

What are good options for a currently commercially available draw knife and spoke shave? Mid range price and quality. Bonus if they work on HD cork.

I treated myself to a window AC unit in my workshop last weekend. I like where your head is at.

Well I got canvas for my blind build and cork/basswood for decoys. What do I do first? Decisions decisions.

    July Workbench

I’ve always struggled with the bill to face transition. Yesterday I traded a decoy with a friend and stared at it for a while. I couldn’t figure out what I liked so much about it, then I realized it was the head. I immediately set to trying to do one the same way. I might need to not make it...
