    August workbench.

Urn for my first dog in progress. Inspired by (but clearly not mimicking) a repainted Ducharme teal decoy by Pat Gregory. My very first attempt in working with a wood body.

    Wood for decoys

I found a few pieces of white cedar and started working with it. I’ll say I do t care for the smell. I am wearing a dust mask per everyone’s suggestions but once I’m done with these pieces ( they were very very expensive) I’m going to try to find some spruce or pine.

    Wood for decoys

I assumed that multiple layers of glued wood would be hard to carve. I’ll be power carving most likely.

    Wood for decoys

It looks like there are some knots in your decoys. I thought that was a definite no no. But that is just what I have heard. Finding materials is holding me back. I’m going to go get a 2x6 from Lowe’s and just do it. Going to try to make two urns for my puppies. A hen bufflehead and early...

Lithium battery for my Alumacraft Ducker

Thanks all. And I should probably not assumed that everyone knows what a ducker is. It is small and portable. Picture a 12’ rowboat 10” deep and 4’ wide. Hence the desire for a small battery.

Stainless steel and aluminum have a chemical reaction over time and will corrode and seize.

Part of my Alcatraz (giant grey rock on my fishing boat for open water hoping to find some really dumb ducks) built involves putting snaps all the way around the boat, similar to how a cover maker would install them. Tips before I start drilling holes all over the sides of my boat? Drill...

    August workbench.

I have developed an unhealthy obsession with making all my decoys “mine”. I have these six Herters burlap decoys in original condition. Some wear. They are part of my big water rig. I’m fighting the urge to carve wood heads and repaint them. In part because I have so many other things I...

I do actually have a place to get spruce. I can have it cut to any thickness I want. Thank you.
