I agree, the plastic bunks have several drawbacks when used naked. I am tempted, however, to use HDPE and cover it with carpet. I'm getting too old to be replacing trailer bunks every year.

It does appear to be quite long, but we can't know how deep the water is. Mine were never too long to stow with the oars. I found recently that the roughly 3/4" composite poles used on my mud boat work in a BBSB. They just don't look as cool.

While most BBSB are a joy to row, in 1910 you might expect that it would have been built to sail. Beautiful boat in any case. I hope it can be restored.

Just noticed that the box you're working on isn't a sailing box, hence no keel/daggerboard well. Some BBSB are built or retrofitted with a 1" or so pipe in lieu of the well, then a small diameter pipe can be driven as a stake.
