I don't have the patience to type everything that's wrong with what happened in the Dakotas, and now in various Provinces. All have caved to the commercial interests, entirely for the almighty dollar. In the long run it will be the end of hunting as we know it, restricted to canned hunts for a...

    New project

It looks planked, with curved ribs. The Widgeon has a flat "V" plywood bottom. It appears to me to be the original 1942 MeGargee Scaup design, or very similar as suggested by Bob.

NDR - Tax season ends today!!!

I always remember that the Titanic sank on April 15th. That anniversary seems an appropriate memory when I hit send on the tax e-pay button, as I did two hours ago. (n)☹️

    Spring Turkey

I don't hunt them near the house, but the toms are waking us up every morning. No shortage of birds in my yard.

    The Next Project...Spring 2026 Bankes Chesapeake 16'

That would be a surprise. Likely the draft with the motor. A practical assessment of the water required, not typical of boat manufacturers.

    Leaky rivets

Pretty sure my wife trolls this site from time to time. She forgives my misdeeds. (y) Hope you guys' wives don't lurk. 😲

    Leaky rivets

That ones been tried with mixed results. My best result was when I scored a pair of identical duck boats, only had to take heat for one. :D

    2025 Devlin Snow Goose Thread

Suggestion...use anti-static braided sleeve. The transducer wire can pick up static and mess with your depth/fishfinder. More importantly, sparks in a boat with gas aboard is no good.

That's the wise choice. The girls are good sports when they tolerate our expensive hobbies, not a good idea to push it too far.

    Leaky rivets

Damn, beat me to it. Or, you can buy first and ask permission later. I have been punished many times for such behavior. I lick my wounds while enjoying the spoils of my deed.

I was thinking of JB Weld too. I believe 5200 would also do the trick. Whatever you use, I'd try to force as much as possible under the rivet head for the best seal.

    Duck Hunting Property for Sale

That would make it tempting to do a little after-hours shooting. Smithers would drop a dime to Chief Wiggum.

Introduction + Question: New VA Hunter

Duck hunting can be a tough sport. Duck hunters should expect tough love, here it is. You will probably find that you need several boats. There are nice ones pictured and mentioned in previous posts, and many more that haven't. Start with a boat that's safe for the water and load you plan to...

I know that place. Burns sends Smithers out to roust poachers.

You're preaching to the choir. You know how I feel about guides. Guides will be the end of hunting in the traditional sense in the US, and apparently, Canada.

    Saskatchewan Follows Manitoba

I'd suggest the theory is that the non resident "illegal guides" buy a season license and tell the paying sports to say that they are all just hunting buddies should the game warden inquire. By limiting the license to 10 days/5 days, the opportunity for that scam decreases. If the wardens catch...

    Spring Migration 2026

Just pulled into home in CT. The pond down the street had a couple dozen Ringnecks, pretty typical. The wood frogs are quacking, I give them a seven on the volume scale. No peepers at the moment. We live on an island in a swamp, when the various frog species get going together it can be a 10...

    Spring Migration 2026

No, he watches for flags and runs over if he sees one. The terrier mix, Dandy, only cares about killing whatever comes through the hole. I wanted to get an eagle photo, so we left a fish on the ice for him/her. I didnt see one nearby so I headed back to the campfire. In the meantime, the eagle...
