    Spring Migration 2026

Thread hijack! All from today. Started out sunny, then a couple inches of snow and still coming. A half dozen lake trout (togue in Maine) in three hours, a nice campfire and fun with friends and family. My duck/bird dog Gunner also points fish, evidently.

I'll see what I can do about that today. No promises that there will be fish, it's been pretty grim.

    Spring Migration 2026

I drove my sled up the lake to see the truck the day after it happened. It was still breaking the surface, pretty close to shore. I wanted a picture, but they had it marked so I couldnt get close and a guy was kicking snow at it. I took that to mean he's the owner, so I guess its better that I...

I'd consider building a curve into the side screens, then copy that in the profile of the dodger so they mate. The top of the dodger would look nice with a curve matching the deck, which would also cut down on the height. Easy for me to suggest, probably a bear to build. Just me making more work...

Those are nice drake Old Squaw. I think those will work just fine, a little mistake just adds character. Somebody will pepper one when a nice drake buzzes them, and that will add more character. (y)

I like a bow high attitude in a heavy boat. As you say, it takes the big stuff much better. I'm not familiar with interceptor plates. It looks like an adjustable vertical plate?

I thought you finished your boat? When are you installing the trim tabs? :) Henry will be done with his boat before you.

    Aluminum Utility Boat

Jeff, You mentioned Prince...Did you mean Princecraft? I have an 18' utility that I bought in 93. They no longer make it as a utility in the 18'er, but the smaller hulls look almost identical. For it's size, it's amazingly light and has never leaked. It appeared to be of questionable...

    Sanford Gunning Box?

Hammock is a word used for high ground in a swamp, so you were correct even if you misspelled it. :) My family owned a part of town called "The Hammock" until the 1930's, it's a high ground/beach dune area between Long Island Sound and a salt marsh.

Tump is a new one for me. In addition to all the aforementioned names, "clump" is a term sometimes used for a really small grass island. These are typically atop the remains of colonial era fishing piers, sadly sea level rise has eroded most of them.

I never get around to it in my boats either. (y) Do you have any experience with laser welding? I have very little experience with any type of welding. I see a lot of videos of welding sheet material with a laser, and it looks quite simple. Not much of a learning curve, as there is contact...

Great build, thanks for posting. Is that a Bonanza tail next to the boat?
