    Angie's nice buck...

This was opening morning ten days ago. She is two for two on her 3 hours of lifetime hunting experience. Unreal. I grunted him in to 20 feet and she shot him in the chest with the .44 fifteen minutes after legal time. Once her shoulder heals a little more this winter I will take her turkey...

    Hey Ballard...

Just watched you on Factory To Field and what a great segment. I told Angie that I really needed to dive into that...I say it every year but watching you give a lesson motivated me. Everything was going along great until they gave Richie the reigns. I've seen him sky blast geese one too many...

    Super cool hybrid....

Got a text message yesterday morning from a friend asking what in the heck he had just killed. He pulled up thinking he was shooting at a woody which is the main attraction where he was hunting. I asked for a couple more photos and told him I'd have to see it but it looks like a Hooded...

    Adonis Tour - Manitoba

Despite the August like weather and a grueling 7 days battle with a bumper crop of mosquitoes, we did pretty darn good. We broke Adonis in on several water hunts and one memorable field hunt, taking Mallard, Pintail, Widgeon, Gadwall, Shoveler, Blue and Green Winged Teal as well as Redhead and...

    Red Pine for carving....

I just took a look of brush over the city compost station and somebody had dropped off some nice rounds of Red Pine...probably about 18 to 24 inch. I was curious as to whether anybody every uses it for carving working decoys?

    Big Yellow Morels.....

The boys and I hunted hard last Saturday and never even heard a turkey. But, for all that walking we did have a chance to check one of my favored dead elms! Guiding, my hunters killed two toms in this spot, one Friday and one yesterday. After all these years I've settled on damp mushrooms...

    20 gauge strikes again...

I took my old 870 20 out the Thursday morning for a quick turkey hunt and harvested my second tom in two years with it. I've had this gun since I was 12 and shot a bird last year in Wisconsin with it but I didn't think I'd use it again. The night before I saw it sitting there in the gun case and...

    Harlequins in Chicago...

I'm probably late to the party and they are probably gone but I just had a client that lives downtown tell me that a small flock of Harlies has been in Chicago for at least a couple weeks. Thought I'd pass it on.

    Wood Duck Boxes...?

I am in the process of planning some work for a property that I manage and guide on. In speaking with the owner of the property he has suggested we purchase pre-assembled wood duck boxes and hen houses. It ain't my money so I did some searching on the net and came up with some decent prices for...

    NDR Motorola cell phone question....

I have had good luck with the Motorola RAZR V3xx with AT&T. I was perfectly comfortable with that phone and it's durability was acceptable but I finally destroyed my 3rd one and I looked for another but Wally World ran out of the $50 ones and now the new in box ones are well over $100. I'm...

DVD recommendation: F5 Buried in Snows

I recall that Ira had posted a link to a teaser for this DVD a while back. Nobody solicited this and I hope nobody minds me recommending it. I picked up a copy and for me, this was one of the best hunting videos I've ever seen....certainly one if not the best waterfowl videos in my view. The...

    White Freak Goose....

I shot this the day Mitch shot his first goose. I've been watching it for weeks and noted that it was spending a lot of time with two double banded(tarsal)and a few single banded birds. Everybody in the area has been watching this bird and it seems to turn up all over the place. It came in as I...

    Another Kid's First....

My 8 year old Mitch shot his first goose this past Saturday. It was in the decoys with and he shot it like a turkey on the ground with his 20 and you know what...I couldn't have been more proud. You gotta start somewhere. He also got to witness one of the best hunts I've been on in a long time...

    For the record...migration

I shot a bluewing in a picked bean field over a a field spread the last day of the Indiana north zone last year in mid-December. We also had a flock of shoveler dive bomb into the decoys in addition to widgeon, mallard and blacks. Last year was one of the better duck seasons I've had in recent...

    Picture Tuesday...Deer Related...

I ate fresh loin and liver with onions tonight. I only wish there was a lake to sneak in on them at all my deer hunting spots.

    Flying with dogs....

My Mom gave me a pretty cool birthday present, she is going to fly me out to SoCal to see my brother. He is in on the deal so he has all kind of plans. One of the things we've been discussing is quail hunting as Ryan has been finding some new spots and is researching new ones all the...

    Deuce's First Flooded Timber Hunt....

As of three days ago there were 20 woodies in this hole because it only had a 20x20 patch of water. Heavy rain, flooded timber=200 woodies and a few mallards within 48 hours. The power of "akerns"! Deuce LOVED it...he's watching a pair bomb in. He just turned 1 year old a couple days ago.

    Special Edition Picture Thursday.....

Steve inspired me(and hopefully others)to post some photos. I can't say that they'll stir the senses and set the mind to wondering like Steve's did but those are hard to top! Early season opening morning...Deuce's first hunt Couple hunts later he finally got the goose figured out pretty...
