    It's Time!

Well its that time of year for me to begin prepping my moist soil marsh for the upcoming season. Time to start the slow drawn down of the water, time to get the tractor and bush hog out of storage, time to cut up and remove all the trees which either blew over or floated into the marsh, time to...

    4/15/2025

Good day yesterday--survived my 30th tax season and my new Browning A5 20 gauge(which I ordered Jan 2024) finally came in!! Looking forward to a lot less work hours and a lot more play hours the rest of 2025. Going to have lots of clean up at my duck land once the river finally get back...

    NDR - Shingles

Woke up last Sunday morning with shingles so have had the shingles "belt" rash for just over a week now. The rash itself hasn't been very painful(very blessed from horror stories I have heard), but the swelling on my side is extremely uncomfortable and makes it difficult to breathe and sleep...

    2 man pontoon boat

Thinking a making a 2 person pontoon boat blind which I would use a small trolling motor. Only have about 100 yds to motor. Question is what is the minimum pontoon length and deck dimensions would you think would be substantially sturdy enough for 2 guys, lightweight small skid blind, sitting...

How do I get the bow down?

I have a County Line 1038 layout boat for which I have purchased a Tohatsu 6hp outboard which I planned to start using on it. I, for the life of me, can not get the bow to come down and just plowed thru the water during my trial run yesterday. It was the most uncomfortable ride and almost felt...

    NDR-Public Service Announcement

Only 3 days left after today to file(without obtaining an extension) individual income tax returns. Remember an extension is an extension of time to file the return, not an extension of time to pay any tax due.

    Need rain!!

A few pics of my moist soil unit from this morning(well not moist at this time-lol). Best stand of smartweed and barnyard grass I've ever had. However definitely looking like first time in my 17 yrs of ownership that I will not have water unless we get some serious amounts of rain soon...

    Tractor/Bush Hog question

I have a older Case IH 404 gas tractor that I used to bush hog with. Long story short is that my 20yr old pull behind bush hog bit the dust this weekend as a couple welds failed and I ended up with all sorts of heavy metal piece flying around. Honestly not sure how I didn't get hit by any of...

    Weekend project

Finally found an low priced double jet ski trailer which I converted/refurbished to be able to pull two County Line 1038 boats. Definitely going to save me a little travel time to and from my marsh. Before I would have to make 2 trips to haul the layout boats to my marsh so that my son and I...

    Double Jet Ski Trailer Question

Looking at a purchasing a used double jet ski trailer to haul my two Countyline 1038 boats to my marsh from my house which is approximately 2 1/2 miles one way. Tired of making multiple trips each time to bring both boats(one is mine and the other is an extra for family and friends to use) as...

    Selfish thoughts during waterfowl season

Since acquiring and developing my 88 acre moist soil property approximately 17 years ago, I constantly pray that the local river(about 300 yds from my property) doesn't flood, and if it does--pray it recedes quickly. Before acquiring my property, I constantly prayed that the river would flood...

    NDR-Looking for Dehydrator Advice

My old dehydrator has officially died and now am looking for a new one, but not looking to spend a fortune. I typically only use a dehydrator once a year to make venison jerky from ground up venison. Any thoughts or suggestions as to brand and where to purchase from would be greatly...

    NDR-A girl and her dog

After 2 long, grinding weeks of preseason soccer workouts for my daughter who plays for Spalding University, she finally got to see her lab, Skye once again. I think it was great for both of them since they basically spent everyday, all day long together this summer and could tell they...

Starting to Look a Little Ducky

Gotta love a mid July rain. Really greened up my 88 acre moist soil unit. It is pretty much solid smartweed and barnyard grass.

    Texas rig question

I just bought some 6' 4oz Texas rigs. I have used 3' in the past with no issues, but have one deeper hole in my marsh that the 3' will not work. Probably a dumb question with a simple answer, but how to you keep the 6' from getting all tangled up when you transport them via boat or jet sled...

    Trap gun recommendations

Been shooting trap using one of my hunting shotguns in our local fall trap league for many years. It is an 8 week season that along with a practice round or two, I'll typically shoot 500 or so shells a year and not looking to shoot any more than this. Anyhow looking at buying a trap specific...

    Father/son goose hunt Manitoba style

Had a great 3 days of goose hunting with my dad with easy limits all three days. Haven't had many of those father/son only hunts in recent years. I definitely will cherish these hunts in this crazy world as we never know what tomorrow will bring!!

    NDR-Montana Vacation help needed

Long story short--my wife and I plus another couple are wanting to vacation in Montana since our fly in fishing trip to Ontario appears to be a no go for this summer. None of us have ever been to Montana. We are looking at the last week in July since that is when our other trip was booked for...
