    When did it start

Ah memories. I started carving as a Boy Scout around 1956-7 at an area Boy Scout camp. Whittled stuff as soon as I was old enough to carry a pocket knife and not lose it. I've always carried a pocket knife - still do - but at camp I was schooled in carving with this set. My first surviving...

Thanks to all. I see myself as an accomplished decoy maker with 200-300 ? done in the last 30-35 years. That said my artistic ability is somewhat lacking in the ability to make "premium" decoys .. in my eyes. I've always made solid decoys in BSC, tan cork or wood. My original decoys are still...

14 months to finish but I finally am done with this 1/2 size Canada (cork) urn to hold a favorite Lab for one of my sons. Its last retrieve was a Canada. Weighs 4+ lbs loaded so not a hunting decoy.

    O/T: Meme thread

I see that this started a month ago and has 18 reply's and couple thousand views. I think that speaks loudly to me. To be honest I only opened this because I saw Huntindave posted. Was curious to see what he posted. I used to be addicted to memes on a couple other sites but got burned out and...

I work the decoy with a foredom while holding it in my hands/lap I front of a bench mounted type dust collector. Also some assembly is done setting loose on the work bench, I have several jigs that help hold things like the head in position while I drill holes, etc but most everything else done...

Surform (?) rasp. Stanley maybe. That brand makes a variety of handles with replaceable blades that I used on black cork (with some care because black cork can tear out chunks if you are not careful)

Tan cork works well with a draw knife. I have several different sizes and styles. You can take a lot of material off in a short while. The decoy has to be held tight some way. I use a vice mounted on a post in the floor. Like mentioned above, various files also work well. Black cork is tougher...

Now what?! Boat blind storage for off season?

Well remember if there is any moisture in the boat or blind under the tarp or any chance of getting some in there while covered that's trouble .. mold. Also some folks have critter problems (mice and other chewers plus domestic cats , raccoons , what ever .. will make a nest/mess,etc) when...

Now what?! Boat blind storage for off season?

By the way the size of the chain I used is way overkill. It's what I had laying around. Two people can easily pick up that blind and move it, instal it, etc. A mistake I made when finishing it was I didn't use any wind blocker over the netting before putting on the grass so wind blows right...

Now what?! Boat blind storage for off season?

Home made metal framed (fold down) blind for my 1960 Roughneck. Used a manual boat winch, 4 chains to attachment points on the frame and one lift rope. I can load or unload this in about 30 minutes by myself. I used chain for the harness ? To eliminate stretch so it lifts equally on the 4...
