    Glen-L Sneakboat vs Devlin Broadbill

I'm just glad that I hit the sweet spot with the snowgoose when I built and it served so well as a compromise boat for ducks and fishing and general transport. Back when I was young and poor (and more frugal), springing for that 40 hp seemed like quite a leap, I'm so glad I didn't go with a...

    Anchor rode upgrades...

Thanks, I've done a fair bit of 3 strand and done quite a bit of single braid (amsteel), but I hadn't done much with double braid. Good thing to do on a cold day to put off more important things that are less fun.

    IN Reach or PLB

We are on Starlink here in Wyoming since there are no other options, when my son is home we often at 12+ devices attached. I've been really impressed. We have an iridium sat phone that we used to use, but with the PLB and satellite texting, we haven't used it lately. Only a matter of time for...

    Anchor rode upgrades...

Thanks, I wanted to give it a little bit of work to let the outer and core equilibrate before committing to whip it. I do like whipping, so I'll probably do it at some point. I need to make a painter and stern lines, so probably then. Seems like pretty nice double braid.

Quick update... Ordered OLIVE, but got an email from the gal that I had talked to about colors and she said the olive was more of a straight up green in this batch. She sent pics of their earth tone colors unsolicited and I went with their "gold", which when it came on the spool from the...

    IN Reach or PLB

Depending on the company a lot of cell phones have it now, text, not voice. We switched to iphones on Verizon because of the ability to text using satellite. We used it a ton this summer in the mountains, It works pretty well considering.

    IN Reach or PLB

This post got me thinking and I looked up the ACR PLBs, like everything the cost has gone up. They are over $400 now. I've had a couple, buying new ones when the battery "expired" (really expensive to get the battery replaced). This last time the battery expired I bought a new battery and...

    Glen-L Sneakboat vs Devlin Broadbill

My experience with having a lot of trouble hiding the snowgoose this fall has me looking the smaller boats. I don't know what direction I'll go, I think I will try a season with a modified field blind as a hide using the snowgoose for transport and then reevaluate. Would be fun to build one, but...

You are right on both counts, he may very well be better than halfway, maybe 9/16 even and yes that is some great workmanship. I believe that will be the nicest built and most customized Devlin duckboat we have seen.

    IN Reach or PLB

ACR PLB for me, they are the industry standard and there is no plan, just buy the unit. One button to push in an oh shit moment. It is especially great now that I can text with satellite with my cell phone - a PLB when you need a rescue and you can text in a lesser situation.

    New Duck Boat Purchase!

38 pounds will be really nice, especially if that material is tough enough to do some dragging through the reeds/cattails/grass. The first thing that got me really excited was the camo interior, I really like that. Get some mud on it to tame the sheen and you will be styling.

    $4 a shell? Holy cow!

The bismuth in shot is in its metallic form, not bismuth subsalicylate. The form can be more important than the elements involved.

I will probably start with some sort of traditional bow in the the next couple years. I really like shooting a bow (compound) and miss it. I haven't seriously shot a traditional bow, but think I'd enjoy it and it sure would be easy to carry in the mountains. The crossbow definitely does not have...

I think that a decent percentage of people that use horses to access the backcountry to archery hunt would say that going out into the ocean to hunt ducks in a small boat is a ballsy ploy.

Will want to have it on a horse both uncocked and cocked. I wouldn't hunt from the horse, but would for sure want to be able to jump off and head after elk without cocking. I really wouldn't want it on my back on the horse, you don't want any extra weight on your back to mess up your balance in...

Thanks Dave, lotta good info there. The shock isn't recoil, it is like you hit a piece of steel with a big hammer, it resonates. Think about how inefficient the recurve limbs are, to get 400+ fps there has to be a lot of energy there getting released. In the end, with a flemish string, heavy...

Thanks Dave, the performance you are getting is similar to what I'm getting and I'd be happy with what you describe for sure (my crossbow is a tackdriver as well - a little faster 440 with light bolts and 390 with my current very heavy arrows). I would like a more compact package so very...
