    Primitive Weapon Duck Hunting

Other than possible safety concerns (rifles being shot at ducks on the water) few if any of the Federal firearm prohibitions make sense in today's world with 6 duck limits. I'm on board with no traps, snares, nets, poison, drugs, explosives etc.. States taking the prohibited list a step further...

I share the sentiment. I'll rephrase to say, our biggest fault is that we can't make them live forever.

I'm gonna suggest he's not the trap tripper. He's the eater of the trap tripper. They steal animals from traps if they can. What species of rabbit is that? Pretty plump compared to jackrabbits I've seen.

that really is good Jode. Dogs are the best part of waterfowling IMO.

I thought the same but then your stuck with tunnels full of concrete like the border with Mexico. Unfortunately giving them the gas pipe every once in a while is probably the best long term solution. I'm gonna shoot me a pile of ducks this afternoon. At least that's my plan. No nuisance holes...

Look at the bright side. You're approaching the problem with a bit of curiosity, at least you might learn something and be entertained by the vermin. Many have become obsessed with exterminating them and have failed miserably, there's no satisfaction in that. Although a couple boxes of 22-250...

While I did have a giggle, I'd seriously like to see what the varmints underground maze looks like. They are interesting little critters, when they don't dig up your pasture. Pics would be nice, but if you happen to bag a chupy, check for a band. I hear they have a program out there somewhere...

    2025 Devlin Snow Goose Thread

Believe me when I say that I want a boat to last. Friends are still using boats I built over 40 years ago. But I never sweat stuff like "what if it rots in 20 years". That's happened for a variety of reasons, but never have I thought moisture in the wood during build was a factor. I like...

Sultans of Swing was new, hot, and on my usual playlist when I was a DJ on the college radio station. Memories!

    FWC Mottled Duck vs. Mallard

That's pretty cool. Provided they don't become an "incidental" oopsie if they flush when ducks are being shot at.

    You Call That Lumber Grading?

It's a Facebook standard, isn't that a nationally recognized testing organization like ASTM? Get with the 21st century already. ;)

    You Call That Lumber Grading?

Your thinking about small mills may be accurate. Everybody has a portable sawmill nowadays. I and another guy owned a WoodMizer for ten years but only sawed for our own use. It was a lot of work, as ours required that you push the saw assembly up the rails to cut. I can see where somebody with a...

    You Call That Lumber Grading?

As far as lumber grading, unless I visit a sawmill the traditional lumber grading doesn't seem very consistent or accurate. I attribute much of that to the scarcity of large trees, as much of the available timber land has been cut over two or more times and trees never get more than 18" in...

I'm all in for reducing the number of filler pieces needed. A couple of extra sheets is worth it considering the effort you're putting in and the nice quality of the build.

Henry, Another option if you want to make a template, buy a roll of "builders board". Where the beam of the boat exceeds the board width (as it is on your build), it is easier than using only one piece. Scribe and cut each side separately, then tape the two sheets in the middle. You can come...

What is your wind tolerance for boat based hunts???

I've been reading this thread all along, but I didn't really have a good answer. The equipment I have now is light years ahead of what we had 50 years ago, at which time I would have said 15 knots offshore, 25 in the marsh. Now I can't really say I get put off by wind because I have great...

Who Hunts With A Black Powder Shotgun?

I've been thinking about the possible need for a plastic shot cup. Even though most old guns have very little choke, it's probably a good idea to keep hard shot like steel and TSS away from the barrel. I'd opt for a shot cup for that reason.
