    Dodger advice

Thanks all. Backrest is made - this was just a tool to help figure out rough material quantities. I'll slide things back a bit and see how that looks. Will give a bit more width for me and the dog. Dave - I'll dig through past posts to look for pictures of your blind. Curious to see the webbing...

    Dodger advice

I'm working through some digital mock ups for a new dodger on my Duck Boss 13. So far, I've only hunted it with a high-box style canvas blind. This off-season I'm hoping to build a new dodger and canvas lap blanket (both shown in red) to hunt it more like a sneak boat. I'm trying to decide...

Last Week of the Season: Who's Hunting?

Closed out the 24-25 this past weekend out on Long Island with some good friends. A big thanks to Anthony for helping me find a place to launch without having to pay exorbitant ramp fees or needing to be from "the island." Two days of hunting and one day of scouting in very cold conditions...

Bye Bye Filson, Hello Tom Beckbe (RANT!)

Sitka is running some of their products in solid colors now. You didn’t add affordable to your list, but it checks the other boxes.

Bye Bye Filson, Hello Tom Beckbe (RANT!)

Thanks, Steve for the chuckle. I don’t think I’d ever be able to forego coffee on a morning hunt, but to each their own! Eric - let us know how the Beckbe turns out. I’ve been eyeing their stuff for some time but it’s a pretty penny. Filson’s downward spiral out of “sporting goods” seems to be...

    Anyone recognize this boat

Definitely an iceboat. They’re an absolute joy and terror to sail due to the speeds, but the closest you’ll get to sculling (at least the laying down part) while sailing!

    Winter is here. Who’s hunting?

I’ve covered a lot of water in CT and NY this season, trying to give the new pup, Cedar, as many reps as possible. He’s been eating it up, and in turn I got to smoke up a few CT black ducks for Thanksgiving.

    Taxidermist request

A friend of mine, Tomas, started Aix Taxidermy in Middletown. He worked on a LTD for me and does excellent work. I can’t recommend him enough. https://aixtaxidermy.com/

    My new boat blind

I used BlindGrass on my boat last season. I’m happy with the material: it holds up well, doesn’t absorb water, and seems like it will last forever. However, I would advise against getting the panels. The wire that was used to hold the grass together is flimsy; I had three panels fall apart last...

    Oxidized gelcoat

The gel coat on my DB13 is starting to oxidize in “high traffic areas.” I’m in the midst of patching some gelcoat chips and wondering whether it’s time to give the boat a fresh paint job while I’m at it. Or alternatively, to buff with compound. I’ve put some pictures below. I’d be curious to...
