Question For New Members (Joined 2020 or later for the purpose of this survey)

Recently joined although I’d been a lurker on and off for a number of years. Looking for boat building info was originally what steered me this way

    Fixing old Herters Decoys

To add to this method you can also use a wooden dowel inserted into the head after the expanding foam and leave a length outside the head same length as the prior stem was . I like 1/2” dowel for strength

    Fixing old Herters Decoys

There are several ways to still use the heads with broken stems, the simplest being to simply glue the bottom of the head and the shelf together. You can then put expandable gorilla glue in the hole for the eyebolt and glue the eyebolt in. Another method I have used is to cut a circular piece...

    20 guage for ducks?

You’ve already been given great advice. I shoot a 20 often and both my favorite steel loads have already been mentioned above. The 20 is very capable for killing ducks. I’ve taken both geese and swans with a 20 as well. The pellets don’t know what gauge gun they were launched from if running...

    Leaky rivets

Can always say you’re just keeping it for a friend ( insert reason). Then after a while say he made you a killer deal on it that you couldn’t pass up.

    Round bottom decoys?

Have often thought about adding a few round bottom decoys mixed with others in the spread with the hope that they did roll to a certain degree to add the illusion of more movement. Never hunted with round bottoms but have read in some of the older gunning books that from a distance the round...

    End of year clean up

Always have quite a few decoys after most seasons that require some sort of repair. One thing I do before each season is either remove or at least kick up any transducers for depth finders. Most of the places I hunt I am very familiar with anyway and replacing broken transducers can get...

    I D these please

Look like Herters model 72’s to me. Cabelas sold the bodies in the raw state like that before they eventually closed them out. You are correct one shown is the diver body, the other a puddler body
