    Question For Retired Hunters

Don't know that I could ever just quit completely. Been waterfowl hunting 45+ years and love it, but definitely have changed over the years. I was pretty hardcore--scout hrs on end, hunt every chance I could, rise early and beat people to spots, etc. Nowadays since I have my own 88 acre moist...

Need advice on shooting a .410 for ducks this year to reduce recoil

I have not used a .410 but have used a 28 gauge shooting bismuth 2 3/4 #4's with great success. Dont recall any issues or concerns with the recoil. I shoot this thru a Benelli SBE and use it mostly for teal and wood duck hunts. Last season shot a limit of ringers with it and stoned all 6.

Not required but highly suggested to have US Form CBP 4457(free just requires a US Customs officers signature). This will erase any and all doubts as to whether the gun is actually yours. We have never been asked for this form when we crossed back into the states, but have heard of a few...

Jeff - We crossed the border at Pembina ND too. Border officials were great both during the typical questions while you in your vehicle as you enter into Canada as well as the processing of the firearms declaration form inside the crossing. We have crossed there about 5 or 6 times now and have...

    Who shoots a 28 gauge?

I completely ran out of 12 ga BOSS bismuth on my trip to Canada a week or so ago. I need to order some for next yrs trip, but like you will wait for true results. I have probably 4 years of BOSS bismuth in 20 and 28 combined which I shoot exclusively outside of my annual trip to Canada.

    Who shoots a 28 gauge?

BOSS has come out with copper shot to replace bismuth. The reviews on it are very good, and apparently the performance is bismuth-like. If this is the actual case, then I would have zero concerns shooting the 28. I have shot teal, mallards, and ringers with it using BOSS bismuth and have...

We did not bring any back--the farmers and some of their family members wanted the birds.

Just got back from a waterfowl hunt in Manitoba with my 79 yr old dad and 27 yr old son. It was simply fantastic just to spend quality time with them!! I have gone up to the same area of Manitoba for the last 10 years and at the same time period(second time with my dad and my son combo) and...

    Moist soil unit season prep

Spent yesterday pumping out the pit, clearing a couple areas for decoys, and will brush pit top later this week. Now will just need to hopefully get additional water in about 6 weeks. First picture is facing north and the second picture is facing south. On the south view, you can see the...

I have not shot mine yet--still debating if going to shoot it or simply keep it as an unfired safe queen. IF I knew that Browning was going to come out with a camo version of it this upcoming January trade show I will 100% keep the wood stock as a safe queen. I know myself too well and know I...

    It's Time!

Tough for me to release much water right now unfortunately as the Army Corp is releasing lots of water from the Lake trying to get it down to summer pool stage(severe floods this spring) and thus keeping the river at bank full here.

    It's Time!

Early October I will begin brushing up the skid blinds and layout boat blinds. Most likely wont get water until early December as have to rely on either Mother Nature or the Army Corp of Engineers to release water. We dont use a permanent spread as hunt out of the layout boats most of the time.

    It's Time!

Well its that time of year for me to begin prepping my moist soil marsh for the upcoming season. Time to start the slow drawn down of the water, time to get the tractor and bush hog out of storage, time to cut up and remove all the trees which either blew over or floated into the marsh, time to...

Good day yesterday--survived my 30th tax season and my new Browning A5 20 gauge(which I ordered Jan 2024) finally came in!! Looking forward to a lot less work hours and a lot more play hours the rest of 2025. Going to have lots of clean up at my duck land once the river finally get back...
