    Herters - keel less?

Awesome resource of info Steve, thanks very much! I bought these at the end of Herters producing their decoys as I recall. These were the oddballs that were left at some dealer once production stopped. As a side note, both corn cob media and walnut shell media are available on Amazon - for...

    Herters - keel less?

So I bought these like 20 years ago. Was a project son and I were going to do - restless coat, paint etc. Never really got to it, he turned into a teenager - girls, school, work turned into work, wife, and babies Now he is back to hunting a lot and now he is the hard driving lead and I...

need help with scull boat- maine?

Sounds like you have a Whitney style scull boat. They have a good reputation for handling bigger more open water. Does it look like this? http://home.hiwaay.net/~parsons/HHG.html Some history and info on the Whitney floats here: http://undertheoar.10.forumer.com/viewforum.php?f=10

    Son's First Goose

My son (15) has been duck hunting with me for the past 2 or 3 years, but we rarely get into any geese during the regular season. This year with a late Labor Day and start to the school year, we were able to get out early on the Friday before the holiday weekend. We got the boat, decoys and all...

    What do you think????

Here is the link to how I did mine: http://duckboats.net/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4447;#4447 I've used it once already this year on an early goose hunt. Unfortunately, my shotgun skills were not up to hitting the couple of geese that I had the opportunity on. I use mine as a one man...

    Another update

I've got a 16' Starcraft I've done something similar with. I cut the bow open even with the the sidedecks to about 16" of the tip of the bow, including cutting out the wood "dashboard". I put some wood bracing in under the remaining front deck for support to mount a couple of handline reels...

    Lund SSV?????

Carl, searchtempest.com allows you to search multiple craigslists by state, city, etc. I am in the Detroit area and used Lunds are hard to find in Michigan this time of year at any price. Everybody who has one is out walleye fishing. I would say a solid 70% of the boats I see walleye...

Lake Erie / Lake St. Clair Sneakboat

This is not mine, just saw it on craigslist and thought there might be some interest here. Better the boat to go to a hunter than to be scrapped or rot away. Pretty good deal on the Restle decoys as well. http://detroit.craigslist.org/boa/1076735457.html

    fairing compound

Epoxy / microballoon mix sands nice and easy. Epoxy / silica mix is very, very hard and I wouldn't recommend using it as a fairing compound.

    BBSB w/ MudMotor??

Here is a previous post by a guy up in Canada discussing their use of longtail mud motors on BBSB hulls. http://duckboats.net/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=37716;search_string=pascal;#37716 Looks like a workable solution for crossing big water where the BBSB displacement hull offers better sea...

    Waterfowling Parka/Jacket

I currently use another brand parka over a fleece shell for most hunting, almost always over waders. It seems like I am constantly getting the bottom 6" of the parka wet, muddy, etc. along with whatever is in the lower pockets on the parka - usually gloves or shells. For my style of marsh and...

    Question

You've got a feather edge type sneak box. The opposite of feather edge is "sheer side" meaning it does have sides like most other types of boats. Here is an example of a sheer side sneak box. http://duckboats.net.nmsrv.com/specs/images/bbsb.tif The Devlin boats would also be considered...

is this my only option for a trailer hitch?

I've got a similar setup on my Chevy cavalier that I use to pull my boats with. When my truck first died, I was leery of using such a small car for pulling a boat, but i have had no problems so far. Mounting the hitch to the car was a bit of a pain. They expect you to have very long and...

Foam core for lightweight boat building?

Foam core materials won’t bend any differently than plywood. They can only bend in one direction to form cylindrical or conical shapes, not more complex shapes. What you may be thinking of is shaping the foam by cutting to shape similar to carving pink insulation foam for decoys or like the...

Foam core for lightweight boat building?

basic how to article. They also sell the core materials. http://boatbuildercentral.com/howto/foam1.php Foam core for smaller boats is about the same weight as ply core and costs more. 1/4" foam core is not that much lighter than 1/4" ply and the glass/epoxy is the same. In bigger...
