    What's on your Workbench - JUNE 2023

Thanks Steve, I've done it a handful of different ways. Usually I make a concoction of linseed oil, some type of thinner, and tube oils. I've used just plain old spar varnish (thinned), and various deck seals (Thompsons water seal type finish). they all seam to work equally well. I think since...

FS: LL Bean Goldeneye and Pintail

I have 6 LLB Goldeneye, I believe them to be 60s/70s era, for being of this age they are in nice shape, the cork isn't crumbly as you often see in them, and a good amount of the original paint remains, this being said, they are well hunted over, and appear as such, far from perfect. I guess I'd...

Ugh.....oh well, back to the workbench.

Joe, funny I see this post today. I spent 2 hours on a body shape I can see in my head, but I CAN NOT make it come out through my hands. It happens for sure. Frustrating, but part of the learning process! I keep most of them when that happens with thinking that someday I'll get back to them and...

    Chet Reneson Decoy

Awesome Vince! Being from central CT I worked on the Reneson Christmas tree farm picking rocks in high school. I've handled a bunch of his decoys but there isn't one in my collection yet. Someday!

    Accidental Decoy Painting tip

Agree Tod, it also takes color well, and I've just experimentally painted an entire rig of 8 Mergansers by only using it, tinted to the correct colors and sponged on. We'll see how it holds up.

    Accidental Decoy Painting tip

I opened a new bucket(?) of molding paste this morning, its what I use to create stippling and combing texture on my decoys. The container has a waxed paper seal like most factory containers that hold liquids do, and when I peeled it back it was heavily coated in material. I took the plastic...
