2016 LIDCA February Decoy Show (Long Island,NY)

I drove 3 hours each way from PA, just to walk around. I had a few nice decoys in my hands; an old canvasback from eastern shore, and a few contemporary carvers from Jersey in Delaware river style. I also had a nice conversation with Clarence Fennimore. Nice morning.

    Mallards Before the Storm

The weather has been brutal. I have been field goose hunting mid day because it's been so warm. The birds aren't leaving water until really late. I have to get down and hunt coastal NJ some year to see some ducks.

    Carving side trip.

Depending on how long it takes you to carve it should be considered. Do you have 1 hour or 20 hour into it? How much is your time worth? It might make sense to put one up on Ebay and gauge the interest and let the market set the price.

Question for those who like to smoke stuff

I have a Big Green Egg. I can use it as a smoker, regular grill, an even as a pizza oven. I bought a temperature controller for it when I smoke - BBQ guru. I did a brisket last night for 18 hours. I didn't have to put any additional charcoal in it after the initial load. I use red oak cut...

    OK brain trust.... motor question

I hate the new gas. I have more problems with 2 stroke equipment now regardless of additives. I use real gas with stabil. It lasts so much longer. This site helped me to find a place that sells it: http://pure-gas.org LOL. I do not work in any oil related or mexican food industry.

I'll trade blue elephants for bluewing teal---

Al, We lost our chocolate named Guinness a few weeks ago. He was 14 1/2. The spirit was willing but the body just didn't work anymore. Every puppy looks different but I have to say this girl looks so much like he did at that age. Good luck with her, she looks great!

    NDR Beaver trapping in NJ

I would second this website as a good source. Offerring a place to trap or hunt will always be well received.

DECEMBER - What's on your work bench?

That's really nice. The bill would scare me. Did you reinforce it with anything?

    Sons first duck hunt

That's awesome. I started a photo album when my kids were little to hold hunting and fishing memories. It's priceless to me now. My profile pic is my favorite trip from when the kids were young and Guinness was in his prime.

    Some duckboat member hunts.

That's nice to hear. I've met a few guys here and each one has been a class act to spend time with.

    Woo Hoo! $49.5 Million.

That's just enough to cover a stone sheep hunt in concession #14 in Yukon for a non resident. LOL

Close encounters of the Goose kind

Nice footage. When I get to go field goose hunting in the layout blinds with my wife, I play tag. I try to shoot the bird that will drop the closest to her blind. It's all good fun until a big old resident goose is dropping in your blind. Lol

    The Rest of the story

I've lost quite a few plastic decoys in the past, it's just part of the deal. The geese bigfoot heads are usually the worst for me. I made my first set of decoys a few years back - a set of cork wood ducks. I lost one of the hens either on the Susky or the Delaware in the first season. The...
