Long canoe with a side mounted ourboard.

Years ago I ran a 16' aluminum canoe with a 2hp Evinrude side mounted for countless hours on small lakes and gentle rivers. Was a great combination and it was never a problem except that one time my novice bowman decided to lift the bow out of the water from shore. He learned some new...

    Phragmites and dogs

Steve, Rumour is the sweetest, most laid back dog in the house and in general. When the guns come out he is absolutely wired to go! He is obsessive about retrieving real birds and the funny thing is he doesn't really get all that fussed about training. You would never guess the energy and...

    Phragmites and dogs

That is a very deep ditch with a steep drop off, and yes, it dies off in the winter. It is the dry, dead stocks that are laying down that do the most damage. Most of the standing phrag is 7-9' just like you describe.

    Phragmites and dogs

Thanks Steve. Rumour doesn't understand "quit" and he had an epic day retrieving. Unfortunately phragmites has a horrible stalk that does real damage to soft skin. He is already starting to recover.

    Phragmites and dogs

Just wondering if others have experienced dog injuries when hunting in areas with phragmites. Was out a few days ago and after a few retrieves in the thick the dog had cuts under both eyes. That stuff is nasty. Is there anything can be done other than avoid it?

    Regarding happiness--part 1

So very sorry to hear this Al. I have always believed that you have a special bond with your dogs and I know you must miss each of them terribly when they pass. Thinking of you!

    Dog appreciation pictures.

This is Rumour. (full name is Red Hot Rumour lol) He recently came to live with me and this morning we were walking across the frozen slough to the point in the distance. It is one of my favorite local spots and it is never to soon for the pup to check it out. The second photo is my wife...

    Sanford Gunning Box

The weight comes in around 75 lbs. It would weigh less if I got rid of the frames as Steve is suggesting. I also increased the bottom thickness over the plan as I knew I was taking out the middle seat. Looking at it now I realize that wasn't necessary.

Jay K, that is exactly why I built my little "pond box" boat. http://www.duckboats.net/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=337933;do=post_view#p337933

    Truck Tire thoughts

I have had the Defender a couple of times and couldn't say a bad word about them. The best thing about them is they will take you farther than just about any competitor. I am currently running the Wrangler Duratrac and have had the Wrangler SR-A twice before. The Duratrac has the mountain...

    Layout boats.

I have hunted the Pumpkinseed a few times. Also their Revolution. The Pumpkinseed is small which suits a smaller person like myself but is very tight for a bigger person. It is stable enough, low profile and works as intended. While I'm not sure I ever got comfortable with getting in and...

    New boat build

I always liked his boats. Looks like fun and I can't wait to see the progress. Working on a solution to get my boat out of your way.

    small boat project

That looks great Robert. When I think back over the years I can imagine lots of places I would use a boat like that.
