Towing cross country on small trailer tires...

Tod, I'd go with new tires on new rims. Take the outboard off to save the beating on the bracket. Any thing loose take out, there are unscruplious people out there, they will rob you in the hotel lot. Lock the hitch and safety chains. Do the bearings and have a set ready to go.. I use timkin...

Converting existing hulls into sneak boats

Years ago I worked with a guy from great south bay. He had a duck boat made from a old speed boat hull. Called it a pow pow, from a free salvaged hull. Took the top deck off, cut the gunnel down [ lower profile ] and redecked it to look like a sneakboat. Looked as good as any factory gunner.

ALL-WOOD SNOWSHOES - Bob Welsh or anyone?

Love the construction. The bending of the toe is great with the relief cut for easier bending, but the croos pieces give strength. Tried snow shoeing once, thought it would be easier.

    Starting the AA Broadbill project

I'm all for putting a good paint on a project. Used Parker om my whaler conversion, but had to repaint every 4 years. Put fme on my southbay and it has lasted over 20 years. I have some petite duck boat paint for my next project. Like the FME. Prep is the big thing, I put one very thin coat...

Need advice on fiberglass and options

I like to use West System. I use it for my ice boat and duck boat. If you want to thin it up, apply heat from a heat gun. The wood and all should be warm. I made planks for my ice boat and heated the epoxy once applied, let it thin and soak in the wood, apply another coat and clamp. It...

    Stumbling with the red dog

Do short retrieves only with a long rope so the dog can't roam. If they dog won't come heal, he can't retrieve properly. Buy the book water dog and stick to it.

    Safety on the water.

I wear my inflatable always when in my duckboat. I changed to a auto inflate about 2000. Also have a regular pfd for a spare. The life you save may be your own.

Towing cross country on small trailer tires...

Tod, don't think it would be a problem. I would repack the bearings, have extra bearings seals and tools. I would go with new tires and have the older ones for spares, just don't overload the trailer. Never had a bearing fail. I use USA made bearings [timkin], not west marine [ china ]. Truck...
