1.2 million snow geese

Kind of hard to get enough decoys to compete with that.
One good thing is that it gives a taste of what it might have been like standing under a flight of passenger pigeons.

Eight gauges would be nice. Guys could get a chance to dust them off. They wouldn't make much of an impact though.

It would be easier to control the geese while they are still in their egg. Although, not as fun and not potlitically correct.

No wonder that call them the Borg.
Can you imagine what all that goose crap must do to the water in those ponds??????

Wow, very cool. Makes me want to go out and kill something..............lots of something. ;)
Down in Texas, we were scouting out and hunting a large winter wheat field (as far as you could see) and over 5000 geese were using the field. The thing we quickly realized was.............where ever 5000 geese are feeding.....they're also pooping. Our walk out to the hunting spot left us with 2 inches of goose poop thick on the bottom of our boots. Fortunately, we were hunting out of our 6' goose decoy/blinds with pads under us to keep us OUT of the poop.

That is a lot of birds for sure. But...how in the heck do they know it's 1.2mil and not 750k or 3mil?

Ryan, I was thinking the same thing.

Talk about the roost.

With aerial photographs they are very good at getting fairly close counts. Basically they grid it off, count the birds in random squares, average it and multiply by the number of squares. I doubt they are off by much more then 10%.
