1648 Lowe Jon boat overhaul has begun - Steelflex

Andrew is da man! Not only can he carve, he can mix epoxy and paint boats. Because of his help, the Steelflex made it onto the boat hull today. This is definitely a 2 man job.

Let me just start with the obvious...this stuff is very thick and gooey. We had to push it around with a putty knife to get it to spread out. Then we used a 4" low nap paint roller to smooth it out over the hull. Here is the boat after about 3 hours of work (that includes wiping the hull with acetone and clean up).

It took about 30 minutes before the stuff really started getting tacky and would stick well to the boat. After an hour it was very tacky and difficult to move. We did two 1-quart pours and one pint pour to really cover the entire bottom and 6 inches of the transom. In about 4 days it will be fully cured and I'll give you guys and update on how it looks.

As it sits right now, the boat should be named, "Tar Pit."

Yesterday, Lou Tisch called me back and I placed my order for a gallon of #28 Dead Grass Green FME paint and a quart of his primer. Today it was on my door step! Incredible service. Almost too fast;) The floors are next.
