I have found it necessary to part with my collection of antique watercraft, including this 1870 Point Pelee Duck Hunting Boat.
Unusually graceful and sweeping lines...
Reminiscent of a 19th Century steam fantail launch

Since this duck boat is from the Lake St. Clair/Algonac/Point Pelee region, it is from a place (and a time) which makes it one of a type which Christopher Columbus Smith, Chris Craft's founder, surely would have been familiar with as a boy.

Related details of the Smith family's early duck-hunting business, supply of ducks to restaurants, decoy manufacture and duck boats may be found in Jeffery Rodengen's well-known book, The Legend of Chris Craft.

Certainly these boats had some real influence on the Smith family as they built their first duck boats. As such, many people who appreciate antique Chris Craft boats should find it very interesting.

The construction is amazing, due both to the narrow finely-crafted planking used and to the graceful, sweeping silhouette achieved by its form.

Please feel free to email me at contactvan@aol.com[/url] with any questions you may have about this boat.

I would like for the boat to go to someone who will appreciate its history. It is currently listed as an 1870 Point Pelee Duck Hunting Boat on ebay and a large number of detailed photos of it may be seen at the following web address:

Thank you very much. - Van
