I rebuilt this little guy for my new boat. It was a little rough when I got it but after a complete tear down and a new coat of paint it runs like a top. Just don't forget to open the little vent on the gas cap when your trying to start it for the first time on your boat. You may get mad and frustrated.

Brandon nice job that motor looks sweet. Nice to see those older motors getting a new lease on life. How much work did you actually have to put into it? Was it a complete rebuild?

I absolutely love it when someone takes some old rough looking machine or motor and makes it look better than new. Inspiring job! BTW, loved the pics of you and your sister in your converted duckboat. You are quite a resourceful hunter and the skills learned there will help in many ways on many projects down the road. Great posts!

Mike,

The total cost is about $30.00 so far. I had to tear it down but not replace too much. I cleaned the hell out of everything and blew every line out that I could find. I rebuilt the carb and checked the points and they looked good. I put new gear oil in the lower unit and re-sealed it. I cleaned the gas tank out and pressure tested it, and I switched out the grease in the center unit. Hand sanded the entire thing and painted it. Impellar is kicking out water through the holes when running and the heads were so cool after running it for an hour I could touch them. This motor wieghs 35lbs w/o gas and runs great. If you can get your hands on one I strongly recommend it. You can even fold the lower unit up to fit it into tight spaces? I guess they just threw them in the trunk in the 60's. It was a riot to do and I think it is the perfect motor for my boat.

Very cool motor I think I read someplace that they are worth some bucks if you have the carrying case. Sounds like it was in relatively good condition when you got it. Nice job!
