Just when i thought I was set to buy one, I find another.
1989 Grumman 14 Fisherman, in fantastic shape.
Motor is a little older but looks to be in great shape, original owner.
Trailer is ok, needs tires but I can work with that.
And he only wants $1100.00.
Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.....

You won't get quite the performance you would out of motor with a shear pin prop as you will a blow thru. I would go with the other one but that's my $.02

Yep, age of the motor is my biggest concern. But I do have access to a late 80's 25hp Johnson as a back-up.

Either way both boats are what you are looking for. The other has a more open layout with a newer motor (that's worth the asking price) plus the trolling motor. I guess it depends on the math as to which one you will have less in and one you could easily get your money back out of if you needed to sell it.

I've done the math and even with adding a TM, battery, lights, fishfinder & batter and a floor, I will still be around $250.00 ahead with this one vs the smokercraft.
Especially since it's 1.5 hours closer, which saves me a 1/2 tank of gas (abut $40.00!).

Both boats seem to have pretty good prices. I am not sure about down by you but in WI deep V 14's seems to be a fairly common item and sell for a dime a dozen. I picked up my 14' last year for $450 with boat and trailer older boat but good conidtion. Being in college I waited a few months until I found a cheap motor. I ended up with a beauty. 1959 25hp Evinrude for $100. Put $200 into her and its good as new. Even has electric start! I tell you they dont make em like they used to. And its also cool running a motor that is 20 years older than I am :)

Guess what I am saying is unless it was the deal of the year on a boat I waited becasue the 14's are so common with all of the fisherman we have here. Not sure if its the same by you or not though

Not the case down here.
Jon boats are king down south, I can probably find five hundred 14' jon boats for sale right now within 2 hours drive.

But deep & wide semi-v are very hard to find. In the last couple of years, I've found around 10 within 4 hours drive and most of those have been beat to hell.
If I go down into peninsula Florida you can find some, mostly because people from up north brought them down when they mover there. But that is a 6-10 hour drive.
Last year I was going to come up to WI to get a grumman, but with the oils spill, it didnt work out. with $3.50 gas, that long a drive is now out of the question.

Thats what I figured with jon boats being more popular.

On a side note. I am being drug to Gulf Shores in two weeks. Anything duck related I can get myself into while I'm there for a week?

Not much duck related but some great fishing! Bring some stout bass tackle and you can fish the Gulf State Park Peir or the beach for whiting, redfish and pompano. Add in sheepshead and spanish mackerel on the peir too.

I was second in line, 1st guy came along and bought this one today. Well, maybe the Smoker Craft will work out....
