4XL dog vest?

Anyone know where I can get a 4XL neoprene dog vest with floatation? I've looked at cabelas, avery, mack's and lion country supply and the largest they have is for 35" chest. Hoss isn't all that fat, just has a deep 36in chest. tried to sqqeeze him into a 3xl, but not a chance.

Thats a big boy! Can you cut it at all to alter it? My pup has a deep chest too so we had to go with an XL but everything else was loose or rubbed. Took a bit of modifying.

Adding material for a larger chest is easy as long as the fashion police don't catch you for miss matched camo. Here is the Late Mr Bogs modeling an altered vest originally purchased for a 40# Springer. Back then money was tight so the vest was salvaged for the 80# lab by adding a panel down each side. A little sewing and gluing and it worked great for another couple of years. The panels were cut out of an old pair of stocking foot waders. The shoulder holes were cut to fit him when standing. Going up a single "X" would be cake.

I had to alter my dogs vest for the same reason, her chest is huge. I had to get a 2xl but then there was a giant "scoop" in the neck and the holes for the front legs needed to be trimmed. I cut V down the neck towards the chest and sewed it back up so it wasn't so loose and fits here well now. As an added measure I cut a strip out of an old shirt and then used some silicon adhesive goo I had and "glued" the strip over the seam for added strength. I don't see why you couldn't add material to make it bigger for your dog. I used some super glue to tack the neoprene together while I stitched it up with dental floss. We used dental floss to repair our rain gear when I worked in Alaska instead of thread because it's super strong and won't rot.

Larry,

Had the same problem with my male lab, very big chest and 3xl vest did not fit. I took the vest to an auto upholstery shop and they made a two inch wide panel with zippers and velcro that just zips right on to the 3xl vest on the top where it joins so that the vest did not have to be cut and sewn back together. I took an old vest i had and they used that neoprene material to make the panel.

Larry,

I had the same problem with my chessie except that I think he is at least a 38 chest. Anyway, I found that Hodgman made the largest vests around and got the XXXL and it was still too small. I ended up modifying it as others have said - I even moved the zipper to open up the whole vest a bit. Don't spare the sizzors just make sure you double stitch the seams that have been cut so the don't unravel. Otto has had his for 8 years and it's still going strong - then again he only really needs it the last week or two of the season.
