I always enjoy the show, seeing folks that I only see a couple times a year and perusing the history. This year I found a very fancy painted Brant that Pete brought from CT, for well less than the E Allen blank cost! It does not appear to have ever been hunted, as though it has a keel, there is no hole or evidence of any hardware for having been rigged. It may need a little ballast too; I will test it before the season. I also purchased a canvas goose, just because I liked it. Maria asked "where is that going" and I had no answer!
As for some thoughts on growing the participation...... I think the duck boats is huge. It will draw the hunters, and the younger folks. Likewise, I suggest trying to provide more for the hunters. Working decoys, materials, parts suppliers etc. I know for myself, while I appreciate the investment and collection of decoys and paraphernalia, I just don't have that in my play budget. Mostly I am looking to add nicer pieces to my hunting rig. Tuckerton draws far more hunters than collectors, and the average age of the attendees reflects that. I suspect these ideas will be sacrilege to most of the LIDCA members, but I see the age gap growing. At 60, I am still on the younger side!
Please don't take any of this as being critical and disparaging. I have been coming for years and will come for as long as I am able. Regardless! Headed to OH in 2 weeks to do it again, then St Michael's, Havre de Grace, and whatever else I can find!
