8hp to a 15hp Merc

Bought a 2000 8hp merc 2 stroke. A friend has the same mtr same yr, as a 15. He said its a matter of carburetors.

I've heard discussion on Johnson or Evinrude on this site. Anyone ever do this with a Merc? Thanks for any help.

I know you can convert a 9.9 to a 15 on both OMC and Mercury, but I believe the 8 hp is a smaller block.
You can go on Mercury's parts website and compare piston part numbers. If they are the same number it's convertible.
