A couple of questions for you glass experts

I want to build a locking cover for a Carsten Canvasback. I'm thinking a 1x3 frame with 1/4 " Luan ply, covered with glass. The cockpit is 24" by 97", the frame will allow me to cover the extra inch. The purpose of the cover to to keep honest folks honest when I travel. If someone really wants to get in I don't think this will stop them.

Question 1 - What weight fabric would you recommend, 6 oz?

Question 2 - Fabric inside and out or just the outside and epoxy the inside?

Question 3 - Good source for the materials.

Thanks!

Bill,

I would use 3.25 oz glass cloth as sold by RAKA as well as their epoxy. I built my pole boat out of 4mm (.160) with that glass and am impressed with how tough it is - also very light. I don't think you have any reason to use 6 oz cloth at all. 3.25 oz on the outside and plain epoxy on the inside will work just fine.
