A duck related watercolor

Well I finally took a break from the fish and painted a duck. I sort of did the analog version of what Steve has been doing with some pictures. I used Gary's buffy picture from the a couple days ago as reference, thank you Gary.
It is a quicky 5x7 that is why the picture is about 5x7, at least on my monitor. It's looks funky if you blow up watercolors too much.
I need to practice a lot on the primaries.

nice work Tim have you got any more planed for the future.

Ahh Tim, just gotta ask....how many primaries does a buffy have?? Good job!

Smartass... I'm not painting a duck stamp. :) My next painting might be bleach bottles.
It was really a problem of me not always being able to control my paint like I would like. Once it made a few more feathers then I wanted I just went with it.

Thank you all.

Eddie,
Not sure what I will paint next, might just do some practicing on ducks.
I need to do some fish carving but I like to do the initial shaping outside and right now outside is a cold place. It may not be march yet but this winter is feeling very long.

Very good work. Good shadowing in the water giving depth to the picture and creating some motion and allowing the viewer to distinguish the "action" of low level flight. Primaries are irregular in length (which they should be), good shadowing on face and underside of chest to create depth and shape. If you were trying to copy the photo, you did a very good job. IMO the area above the buffy should be tinted down some to reduce a bright spot or glare, but I think that's how the photo was too. Again, very nicely done.

Pete,
I takes what I can gets :)

Thanks guys.
Dave I agree the water should be showing at the top but I don't like backgrounds too much so I sort of tone it out if I can, even if I shouldn't. It did need the water underneath to show the shadow. I thought that was a really neat thing in the photo.
