yesterday was the opener for private land shotgun/rifle in ct. so i decided to get a deer so i could focus on ducks. i was in the woods by 4:30 and was waiting for 6:10. i am definitly a duck hunter but there is something special about watching the woods come alive. so i hadn't seen anything and there were a few shots, so i was just about to take a leak when i looked to my right and i saw a little doe at 80 yards. i like shooting small deer but this one was a little too small so i decided to watch it. a few minutes later i saw its sibling and watched them mill around. after watching them for twenty minutes i saw another deer that was bigger and the smell of fried backstrap began to surround me. so i put my cross hairs on the deer at about 104 yards and pulled the trigger. the two litle deer were unphased and i watched them for 1/2 hour, they came within 5 feet from my stand. as i went to go look to see if i could find blood i also scared up their mama.

this was the reason i didnt find a trail and just was walked up on the deer

after a long drag i began to cut it up and my mom wasnt that happy abut having deer legs wedged in to every refrigerator in the house.

i also already had plans to make homemade blue crab raviolis, so my cousin came over and we made a few hundred for our family gathering this weekend

I would trade any day of duck hunting for him...Nice deer and not a bad shot at a 104 yds! Great Job Chris!

Nice all around. I didn't see zip yesterday, but my freezer is fully stocked, so I'm OK there. I'm very ready for December ducks.

Way to go Chris...Nice buck. Your getting me going now. Our gun season starts tomorrow morning. The jeep is already loaded and all I have to do is hitch the boat up and head for the river. My pard and I have been scouting the last couple of weekends and have seen deer so I hope to have a few pics like that this weekend.

Nice buck! Funny thing, I'm packed up to head North to my son's cabin for deer hunting and I have a nice healthy doe and a six point buck on my trail camera in my woods here. So does it make sense to drive 5 hours North when I can hunt right here? My wife can answer that.:)

Thanks, pics lookes like dark stuff, must be the herbs - yum!

There has to be a story to the empty ammo holder on the stock - you have a pile of empty cases at the base of your stand?

Chris, if you need a taste tester/quality control operator I am only a town away. Would be happy to be sure those ravioli are fit for eating and I am only a town away.

Crabbing is fun, crab picking (especially if you try to get all the meat) is not so much fun.

Oh yeah.... Let's just say I never want to see another crab in my life. Of course all the food Chris makes is good, but you have to ask yourself in the end... was it worth it?

Nice buck Chris. I'm almost out of crabmeat. Only one small bag left. This years crabbing sucked.

Really, ours was off the hook here - it was actually worth going in my areas. I bet your crabs swam up here and left you for us.

For,
We would probably pick up one male for fifty or so females. I don't take females so it was a lot of work filling the bucket each time we went out.

We did well ok numbers but they were all nice sized. Most were 7 or over. The smallest we keep is 6" and no females. It is a nice relaxing time and not a far ride.

I might out source the picking next year though
