last mondays activies: stocking many thousands of channel cats throughout ct. half of the large ones were albino. man i love my job. i was also all over CT DEP facebook

You are most fortunate, Chris. Just think, some day when you move up in the ranks of the Fish and Game ladder, you will be handing out daily schedules to young guys like yourself, who are saying, "Man, I love my job!" Hope you can say it then, too. I sure enjoyed those pics.

Cool stuff! Thats the part of working for a state agency that makes it all worth. Just think about how excited some kid is going to be to catch one of those big albino cats!

ok, dumb question from a NON fisherman....

most albinos are sterile, is that the case here?

are they a subspecies or something?

why would they stock them vs normal ones? (just a trophy deal or what?)

Just curious as well... Is there an environmental reason for stocking the Catfish? or is it just for recreational fishing? Are they a native species?

channels are native most of our fish are acutally invasive, bass, pike, ect we really only had pickerel, sunnies, and cats after the glaciers went through. i dont think the albinos are sterile, but most of the places we stock wont facilitate breeding since there arn't holes in the bottom for "dens"

the hatchery had extra albinos so why not get some cool looking fish?
