A "leetle" bit more progress

Major painting & softening on this hen is pretty well completed. Next step is to start on all the subtle iridescence on the exposed wing feathers, back & scapulars. Note the reference pic of a dead hen's wing printed from our photo archives ( I knew that would come in handy someday!). Woodies along with pintails have to be the prettiest hens out there.

Bob,

Your kill'in me

I have to agree that a hen woodie is one of the best looking hens. And you pretty much nailed it.........again.

So when are you comming down to teach the southern boys ( read: me )how to paint ?

No doubt about it..That is a beautiful decoy.

What kind of shotgun is that in you Avatar pic? How do you like the English straight stock?

What paint chart is she sitting on?????

That is the Jansens system tech manual. First thing I bought before making the switch to their paints and mediums. Best 10 bucks I ever spent. Lots of good info in there. The charts you see it open to are a great help in avoiding spending money on colors one can mix from a core selection. All the "formulas" are there.

That is an Ithaca/SKB 280SE (Straight English) in 12 ga. I also have the matching 20. Although my sons prefer pistol grips, straight is the only stock I look for on the guns I have bought for myself.

Bob,
Got home from a funeral for a very dedicated fishing friend who passed this weekend. As a tribute to his memory I picked John up from school and we headed up to the trout pond on the club property I belong to on the CT/RI border. 375 acres of woods and swamp. Boy did I think of you. We watched the fish roll for two hours as the sun went down, the whole time being bombed by woodie pairs moving around for the evening set down. What a sight.
Hen looks great. I thank you for the heads up on the color manual. Will have to call Willy.
