A lot of people haven't specified location in their Profiles. Please take a moment and fill this out (Edit Profile -> User Profile -> Location:). No we won't show up on your doorstep unannounced. It's just nice to see where people are and gives a better understanding of "where they are coming from." In addition it helps someone who might be planning a trip or have an interest in a new area.

Thanks.

Eric

I don't think people understand... Speaking for myself (granted, I'm a known asshole), but I am not compelled to respond to a person if they haven't taken the time to fill it out.

Were it me, I'd make it mandatory.

It would take some doing but I'd like to have that made part of the registration process. Of course many would feel like their privacy was being invaded if we wanted their real names and location. There are plenty of other sites that may be more to their liking, anonymity and such. This place has always been a tight knit community and at the expense of new members I don't mind keeping it that way.

I figured it would be a bunch of work otherwise it would be done already. Peer pressure works. Maybe Barry N can come out of retirement and enforce.

Tod,

"but I am not compelled to respond to a person if they haven't taken the time to fill it out." "Peer pressure works"

I have to agree with you. It is nice to know location and a real name. I see a few reasons for new members not always completing this information,
(A) just plain missed doing it

(B) don't want to reveal the info

(C) see that others have not filled it out either

As Eric has said, If we haven't done it already,we can all do something about item "c"

Hi All,

I have provided the info since day 1, but I think it is prudent to point out that in this information age, having this information in clear text is opening up a personal security risk for our members in many ways. The more a person knows about an individual and their lives, the easier it is to perpetuate fraud. I'd like to think it doesn't matter since we are a tight knit community but the fact of the matter is that the DBHP (and it's data) is open to the world, including search spiders, thus it is open to misuse.

onmy profile isn't going to provide anymore opportunity to "track me down and steal my identity" than leaving the entire thing blank.....Eric didn't ask that people provide addresses, phone numbers, pin numbers and SS#'s he asked to provide some indication of where you are located....thats a big difference...

Anything that I want to know about you I can get from your e-mail address and your name.....it's that simple....you want protection from the internet? Stay off the internet.....

Nothing personal meant by the above Charlie you just happen to be the guy that stated the oft quoted "too much information asked for" and I was between ass chewings from customers......

As you can tell I don't think its a stretch to ask someone to state "in general" where they are so that when they post people can know where they are talking about....posts would be pretty worthless if people all posted with, "I hunted somewhere in the U.S., (I'm sorry I can't be more specific but I fear the cyber scouters and identity thieves are lurking), and just wanted to related these bits and pieces to you"....signed, "I can't tell you cause you'll then know where I live".....

Pretty boring......at least to me....

I'll trade you a female customer that chewed 10 minutes non stop on my butt.....all I could say was I apologize..a couple times when she took a breath...and all I was doing was trying to help her and the contractor ( who did a poor job) out. My guys thought it was pretty damn funny.

Steve,

The state alone isn't the issue, the main issue is "real names". If you add in location, it makes it much easier for someone who knows how to, to defraud you.

Take it for whatever it is worth, maybe nothing, however, the more personal information that you put online, the more you expose yourself to the potential for fraud.

I sell trailers for a living and all I know about Spiders is that they have eight legs and my wife hates them.....

That said I'd bet that the difference between my name and no location, and my name and "Washington" is very insginificant to those people who make their livings stealing peoples identities.....

I guess in the end the decision is up to the guy who signs on....he won't know it when he signs up but there are lots of people who just don't respond to posts when there is no information given.....and then tere are some that don't care one way or the other......I guess after a while the guys that get no response either just go away or ask......

Personally I'm like Todd in my tendancies of "who" I respond to....

Call me naive but I’ve been in the telephone book for the last 25 years or so and that gives out my name, telephone number and street address all in one place. I bet there are a couple of hundred thousand fellow citizens in that same book. Unless I piss off a person here on site, why would I be more of a target than I already would be by being listed? Isn't there much easier ways to steal identities than crawl through these pages putting names, towns and states together? I don't post my travel schedules on line and I don't think I claim to own anything of significant value to attract attention. Seriously, if I'm missing a significant threat, I'd appreciate being warned.

my Birthday this year so I'm not talking to you anymore.......(up till now you had been the most reliable person, other than my Mom, so I am, of course, crushed)......

Sad in, some town in the U.S. but I can't say which one cause someone might steal my identity

Some name that I can't say fo the same reason.....

It was already done, and besides, there are two Richard Pierce-s in White Hall/Pine Bluff, so maybe they'll get the one who is wealthy, and not me, if they want to steal an identity.

bwaahahahahahahahhaha

dosent matter who you are or where your from or if you listed that info, if you disagree with STEVE hes gonna reply ;)

do as I do.

Be such a complete a$$hole that nobody and I mean nobody even thinks to want to steal your identity.

It also helps to be poor :>(

I have to agree with the phone book info. BTW, Charlie, nobody is picking on you. Heck I'll even let you be me for a week. Bring your tools, cause my wife has got a huge honey do list. BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
