A very good day.

Hi,

I wasn't sure I was going to make it out this morning. After a bit of a late start to the day I headed ot one of my old stand by bird covers only to find heavy equipment and a sign stating a "new exclusive ridgetop community." Suck a duck!! That is no way to start a day.

I ended up going to another cover and having a wonderful day. I came to the same conclusion for about the 1,000th time that my pup is a varisty player and I will never be more than JV. But as a good friend should I don't beleive she would trade me in if she could.

It won't be long until the kids are big enough to handle upland hunting. They already get to go on the occasioanal duck hunt. But they always like to check out the birds. JD was real exicted and wanted to know when we "get to take the meat out." I told him I am exicted for when he is old enough to take the meat out of the birds by himself.

My best,

Don Shearer

Hey, things are always changing, but ya always hate to see a good pheasant area go. But look on the brite side...a couple more years adn those kids will be packing 20 bores right along side of you in that thick pheasant cover. It's always amazing what little cover will hold pheasants. I had this proved to me this year in Montana. Rick Ketcham, his son Jason and I are driving back from a morning pheasant shoot one day and Jason tells his dad to pull over, Rick asks why? Jason says, I bet ya that 65' X 5 foot stretch of high grass has a bird in it! To make a long story short, Jason gpt about 40 feet down that slip of grass and a cock got up at his feet and he dropped it stone dead!

Remember that little spot down by the Columbia River where you took a couple of pheasants out of and it was no bigger than a postage stamp? It's all a matter of timing........the more TIMES you are in the field teh more roosters you'll get.

Thankd for the great picture of the kids with teh dog and birds!

Dave,

You got that right. You don't shoot many birds sitting on the couch. I am not only amazed at how small a piece of cover can be that holds birds, I am constantly amazed at how those big colorful birds can be in such short cover and I cannot see them until they take to the sky.

My best,

I especially like the look your dog is giving your son,Like,"you the man".Like Dave said,Wont be long when they will be shooting with you.
