Advantages of a wood boat??

My buddy has a devlin snowgoose that he has had for 4 years and is in good shape, he wants to trade me in addition to a few other things for my fishing boat that was damaged in sandy. What are some of the advantages of a wood boat over say a aluminum boat. I know every boat has its pros and cons, just seeing what wood boats are all about

Besides the warmth and lessened sound transmission due to the insulative properties of wood, you have the warm fuzzy feeling of using a more traditional craft.

You have to consider where you will hunt. Aluminum is more forgiving if anchored on/near rocks. Aluminum needs less maintenance. Having said that, Dave M's devlin cackler is a fine boat to hunt out of and is in like new condition after a number of years of use.

Warmth is a big one for me. Depending on the build quality and how heavily it was glassed you also have to weigh the options of if you can keep it inside when not in use.

I keep my glass over cedar sneakbox in a garage year round and it's still like the day it was built. If you leave some wooden boats out in the weather things are going to go south sometimes rather quickly.

If I didn't have the ability to keep the boat inside I would buy an all glass sneakbox.

T'ain't nothin' on water like a Good Wooden Sneakbox. As Craig stated, mine went south for various reasons, due to outdoor storage. So my next one Will be glass. Can't wait - I'm not gettin' any younger!
