Advice needed for a Lake Michagan Trip!!

We are planning a trip to visit our children in the chicago area, aug 17-23 and the wife wants to head up to door co and do a little site seeing and I have agreed as long as I get a day of salmon fishing and can look for a new boat. I desperately need advice on how/who to get to take me fishing as I have never fished the big lake before. I am also shopping for a preferably used lund alaskan and in mn they are very hard to find so I was wondering if anyone had an idea where I could find one?

Hi Greg,
If I read you right, you're heading for Dorr, Michigan????
If that's where you're heading, you have some choices. I'd check with Jay Anglin and see what he's got going.
Another option is a good friend of mine in North Muskegon. He's Jeff Bonin and you can reach him through his website: http://www.rapturetrollingflies.com/
Good luck.

Thanks Lou! I think he meant Door County Wisconsin though. That's the best spot in Lake Michigan to duel with the big Kings. There are several well established harbors with plenty of charter captains. The guys from the Green Bay area should know more. Kewaunee and Algoma are good place to start I'd think. That's the lake side...not sure if the Green Bay side is "hot" for kings or not.

PS...I guess there are only a few guys that know I have a website here....its www.anglinoutdoors.com ....How do you make it into a link?

And you can bracket it like this for hot link: www.anglinoutdoors.com
And, you're right, I didn't know you had a website. Nice looking site. Do you webmaster your own site or somebody else doing it?
Lou
p.s. You can also put your website addy into your profile/signature.

Greg I lived in Sturgeon Bay off and on for nine years. No too many places in Door county I haven't been. There are charters out of Sturgeon Bay and Algoma. I would write to the Sturgeon Bay chamber of commerce for information. They have some nice literature. There is or was Mac's sport shop, good for the latest information on fishing in Sturgeon Bay or Lake Michigan. You should enjoy Door County It's called the New England of the Midwest. Bring your camera nice light houses. If you get up to Sister Bay stop at Al Johnsons resturant an interesting place. I don't know if he still has goats on the roof.

I had fished every year with RV Charters out of Algoma for the last 10, this is the first year we didn't go, needed to take a year off. RV has 3 boats, and are well known for being on the fish. The website is http://www.rvcharters.net/.

We had many good years, half of the years we limited out, the other half were 50-80% full and only had one skunker, which was a bad year.

Only other suggestion is fish Algoma or north, and in Door County stick to the Lake side if you want trout and salmon. The water gets deep close to shore, so as it warms there is less travel time to fish. I used to camp in Baileys Harbor every labor day weekend, and the guys in the campground always had dandy fish, and there were a handful of charters there as well

Other questions let me know...

Bob
