Aluminum oar sleeves

Last Christmas I received a pair of Carlyle aluminum oars for my gunning boat. I used them for fishing and in the open oarlocks they made a terrible racket and scratched up the powder coat something awful . I was going to repaint them anyway but am looking for suggestions on oar sleeves or wraps or a different kind of oarlocks. Always had wood oars previously that I scrounged from flotsam on the saltmarsh and pinned them to the oarlocks. The commercial sleeves I see are about $20 per oar and are sized to fit this brand. Any suggestions guys.

I wonder if large diameter heat shrink would work for this application???

Along those lines, I know 3M make what is called cold shrink wrap. They use it for underground cable splices and it is the same as heat shrink but thicker. Might be ideal. I don't know how expensive it is or how hard to find but may be worth looking into.

Thanks for the answers so far. I could spend the 40 bucks for the ones I see advertised as they say they fit this oar but I don't know how they work or hold up.

Wrap the oars in rope. It protects the oars and is quiet and rope is easy to find. But make sure the they will still fit in the oarlocks before you start!! Below are instructions
