Aluminum sneakbox

Are there any commercial makers out there that make an aluminum sneakbox? I am thinking that the tin would hold up better than fiberglass where I hunt at. Lots of oyster beds in the marshes and sunken logs in the black water streams around here. Also I don't have indoor storage for a boat, so I was thinking the aluminum would hold up better.

Kirk,
I dont know of any. I could be wrong but I dont think metal can be shapped into a true sneakbox hull very easily. You should be able to find a boat of plywood design that can be created out of metal though. Maybe talk to a fabrication shop about building you a devlin or similar design?

Good luck let us know what your search turns up.

Kirk, I don't know of any either. Since I work in the metal fabricating field I can assure you that to produce such a craft out of aluminum would be very costly. It would also be very cold to lay in and loud on rough water. Someone on the site recently posted pics of an aluminum constucted devlin boat. Maybe they can chime in. He was doing a really nice job too..............Kevin

Duck Water Boats has one called the River Mallard and is 16' 2". It looks like the Scaup with a mud motor option. The price they have on it is $6,500 with extra options listed. HP rating is not given in the specs..

Thanks for the replies. I live on the coast of NC. Closes boat I have found yet is the one that Duckwater boats had posted on another site. I was just curious as if any one else was making a similare boat.

I have been wanting to make an aluminum airboat, to get over ice safely. Now might be the time to do it, as metal prices seem to be down. I turned is some cans last week for 25 cents a pound, early in the summer they were $1 a pound. I doubt aluminum sheet has dropped that much, but they should be down.
