ammunition sales???

Does anyone have an idea why people are hoarding ammunition?? our local Fleet Farm store cannot keep ammo on the shelves?? even last fall during slug season a guy couldn't even find a pack of slugs, the most common thing for deer hunting around here.....

Is it just panic that is driving the hoarding?? what i wonder is i suppose the price of ammo is going to skyrocket?!, I would say if demand is high so will be the prices??

Has anyone else noticed this in other parts of the country???

even 22 LR ammo is hard to get....

just curious what others are seeing....

Its been like this for a little bit now I paid $65 for a brick of 22lr at the philly gun show and that is cheap compared to some prices I've seen. If you need ammo that bad check gun broker.com you will pay for but you can get it.

As far as why it's happening I would say cuz people are scared and not knowing what new laws are going to be passed. 22lr can't be reloaded like others so people keep that in mind when buying it and buy more.

Yep it's like that all over. Most of the makers sound like they are turning out ammo as fast as they can right now. I don't think you could tell if they are pushing up prices in stores or not because you can't find any. I haven't noticed the prices on the empty shelves going up if that means anything. I don't think the makers dare boost prices too much right now, they would be killed on the internet. I saw the hysteria almost get Cabelas on one forum. They were sure they had stopped selling any ammo that could be used in an AR15. Stupid as it sounds many guys were ready to through them overboard. It ended up being ONE guy misunderstanding what a rep on their help line said. They had just run out of ammo and needed to cancel some large orders.

I think a lot of speculators and gun show dealers are hording it not shooters.

not in need of ammo,

just wondering what this is going to lead to??

hopefully die off after a while after everyone has a housefull of ammo, then a person can go hit garage sales for the overstocks??? HEHE

never thought i would see the day when a person couldn't even run out to the local farm and fleet store or a ace hardware or whatever and pickup a pack of 22lr and couple boxes of 12ga or 20ga and a case of clays and take the family and friends to the edge of a field somewhere and have a cheap day of entertainment.....i grew up on doing that very thing!!!!.....had the time of my life the first time shooting a 12ga at a clay target wedged in a tiny sappling i believe i got nocked to the ground, but i hit the clay bird!!!!!

i just think sometimes that our liberties are taken away a little each day......

Just my thoughts and I have no firm numbers but.....

Hoarders in my opinion, are a small part of the issue. The new firearm owners across the country are the cause for the shortage. Let me explain, (again not scientific just my thoughts). In Illinois, 65,000 plus, new firearm owners ID cards have been issued in the last few months. If each state other than Illinois is having the same or close to the same numbers of new gun owners than that is a huge strain on all ammo manufactures. Using 50,000 new owners per sate as an average than over 2,500,000 new gun owners are buying ammo. Ammo manufacturing companies can only produce X number of rounds a day, and this level is not able to keep up with the new demand.
Yes, there are the dooms dayers out there, God Bless em, but hoarding, in my opinion is just a small part of the overall shortage.
My fear with the shortages is that the shooting sports will suffer until the ammo supply catches up.

never thought about all the "new gun" owners....good point.

i know that as well in our area that the gun sales have been through the roof as well....

should have been a gun dealer....

Shooting sports are already suffering. It doesnt mater what your shooting. By far .22lr and .223 are the hardest to get locally at a fair prices. When you do find it it's priced real high and only a one or two box per person maximun, when they have it.
I have been trying to get some bulk ammo for a few months.
The days of 22lr at 2 to 2.5 cents a round are gone

It's just Crazy. I try not to think about it, cuz it gets my blood pressure up, but man this is not Good. Don't know if it will ever get better anytime in the near, or distant future.
What the hell happened to this county?

I live in maryland and they are trying to pass a bill where there would be a 50percent tax on ammo. so if you pay 20.00 a box the tax would be 10.00. so they can fund MENTAL HEALTH CARE BILL.

Our own Homeland Security just put in a monster sized order for ammo in the last two months. From want I was told they trump everyone when it comes to purchasing. Not only are the citizens having trouble getting ammo your local PD may be in a bind. Makes it difficult for them to train and qualify when they can't replace the ammo needed to keep you safe. All the conspiracy people blame the DHS for the shortage more than the hoarders

you said it!!!!!
its almost like this day is the best it is going to be and tomorrow is just going to be a little worse.......

Everyone is loading up. The scare is out there and people are afraid they won't be able to get it later. Ordered shot shells, was told 2-3 months. Some dealers are raising prices, remember who they were when you buy something large.
Got the word that no face to face transfers as of 3/15/13... Thank your governor. Thank Bishop, Lavalle and the likes. I thought they represented us. Guess the party line and donations are more important... Only costs $10 for something that was FREE. Thats the way it starts...

I've been waiting for my renewal for 60 days...I guess thats the reason they can't get them out in 30 days as the STATE LAW requires. I'm afraid this state is broken and can no longer be fixed. Hell, I send in my info to get my bay boat registered in Illinois in September of 2012 and still haven't recieved my registration and hull stickers. They told me the state is waiting for the stickers and as soon as they get them they will be printed. Sounds to me like somebody didn't pay their bill and printer is holding the order. Sorry, needed to vent!

Most of it is panic buying. I would put good money on not seeing a single federal ammo restriction law passing.
Federal Magazine capacity limitations? Maybe. Fed "Assault Weapons" ban? Maybe but I dont think it will pass in the end. Background checks for ALL sales? 50/50 on this one.

That said, some of the more liberal states are gonna off on some knee-jerk ammo restrictions, but they are probably also condidering all sorts of gun laws that criminals will never follow anyway.

Its one of those times I thank the Lord I live in Alabama.
