And there was light!: Sneakbox progress

You do not know the meaning of SLOW! It took me at least two years to finish my boat. Life gets in the way.

I don't know about slow but that is one heck of a sweet looking boat.
I enjoy seeing your updates, thanks for posting them.

Well the inside will get paint too! Yes, the coaming, oarlocks and motorboard are all mahogany, and looked very nice with just the epoxy on them. The guy I got the mahogany from makes reproduction furniture, and was sick that I was going to paint the mahogany! I need to add some pieces to the inside of the coaming before they get painted. I have an idea for some "keyed" pieces that will hold on my 2 piece hatch cover so that al the mounting and hardware will be inside or on the cover, not on the deck. I'll start on that after another coat or paint and it cures in the sun a couple days. Then the dodger! And the seat, and....... About ready to get wet thoough. Paperwork sent to the state last week, and the motor is at the marina, though I stopped there yesterday and they have not even looked at it! Supposedly he will this week. Still have some trailer work to do too. Plenty to keep me out of the bars!

I am getting antsy to get it in the water.... the devil is in the details! I know I won't really be done for a long time yet as I have the sailing rig to build, the dodger, etc. But I am getting close to the re-launching.

This week I flipped the boat and put a final coat of paint on the bottom, then installed my registration numbers/stickers. We then flipped her right up again and I have been doing the details on the deck and inside. The interior painting is done. The bow light is installed. The stern light is cut in but not yet installed. I also installed the rear chocks and rub strakes, and the rear cleat. This past weekend I spent on the cockpit covers. They are built! They still need to be sanded then glassed, but I will work them as I have time. The focus this week will be the trailer, and the wiring in the boat.

Here is the front cover, note the mahogany triangles underneath...

They lock into the triangles mounted to the inside of the coaming....

Stern light mount installed.

Electrical panel built.

What a great pictorial. Who cares if you are slow? Your workmanship is phenomenal. Just think of the sweet memories you will have when in that boat and you put down that first duck.

Some of us build a boat for speed. To go fast and that is about the only fast that should be included in the equation. A boat should not be built fast(quickly). It should be built correctly. What is your life worth to you family. Being an engineer, you are going to take your time and build it right and that is what is going to matter when you have your first flock of cupped wings and dropped legs.

By the way....nice work Dave. I look forward to seeing it this season.

YOur attention to detail is commendable. I like all the little touches. Very ingenious how you fabricated your switch panel!

Busy week, with some progress to show for it. Started the week working on the trailer, installed new fenders, and new LED lights. Then got back on the boat. Installed 4 LED underdeck lights and wired everything with marine wire, marine connectors and marine shrink tubing. I also weighed the hull when I transfered it from the cradle to the trailer. After subtracting the weight of the come-along and the strap buckles she will be right at or just over 350lbs. Need a couple additions for the trailer to get it set up best, but it will work to get her to the water later this week.

Dave,
You've done an extremely nice job on your boat. Those under decks lights will be a huge benefit. Looking thru your rebuild, I've noticed how you've borrowed all those little things from builds past as well as added your original touches to make your boat top notch. Congrats on a nice rig.

Dave
she is looking awesome. Keep it up! Will be looking out for on the water pictures.

Come on Dave, get her in the water. We all want to see that your hard work paid off and the smile on your face.

Great job!!!!

I hope to take a 1/2 day sometime this week, will depend on when my neighbor is available... I need a photographer, and would like to have another boat there in case my motor is not up to the task... I just dropped $485 into it so it better work good, but better safe than sorry!

Worse case, I go alone and stay close to shore! But then I don't get any pictures.
