Another season opener. This year in Florida. I have to thank Dani fior a great morning in the marsh.

Nope....didn't shoot a thing we just weren't where the ducks wanted to be. We had a couple of flocks of Teal buzz us but as with most first morning hunts we were looking the other way, setting decoys, loading guns or a doz other things we all can relate to. None the less it was great to be out in the marsh and I got to use the new kayak which I must say worked beautifully and I have yet another craft which sleeps well.

I did have the good fortune to meet another excellent hunter in one of Dani's friends, Cannon. Thanks again you guys for a great morning.

Take care.

Rick,

The area is flooded during the main season is my understating. There are pockets of water. This was 1/2 dragging and 1/2 paddling. We were facing water about 40 yds out. Some ankle high and the ditchs were about waist high. I'm still learning the ropes. In this WMA you have to signup for a permit to hunt. A limited number of permits are awarded and then the morning of your hunt you draw for a hunt location on the property.

Take care,

Ed

Yes Ed It is most important to have a boat that sleeps well. After dragging it though all the mud and weeds. It is most important to have a nice dry comfortable place to relax and enjoy the scenery. After your refreshed then It's time to think about ducks. This is what experience teaches us.

It is high water around here. Lots of stuff floating down the rivers got to be careful. Some rivers are unhuntable because of the high water.

Pete,

I knew you'd apprieciate the comments about my new boat. There's nothing better than a morning snooze as the sun comes up with the whistling of wings like a lullaby puts one back to sleep after the work required to get up, load up, drive up and then drag ones ass to just the right place to put out your dekes so you can hunker down for that first cup of coffee and then!...;-)

Hope you're able to get back at it this year and have a good season.

Ed

Ed,

What kayak are you using? I am picking up a WS Commander 140 this weekend and plan to use it duck hunting this season.

Thanks,

Mike Willis

Looks like a good place to hunt.

It's a very good place to hunt, and that spot that Ed has his canoe "parked" in the photo will probably have 5'-6" of water on it by Thursday morning. We had a cold front come through and next is a Tropical storm. We're getting hit from the north and the south, very interesting storm patterns...and we need the rainwater bad down here.

Good to see you Saturday Ed.

I have a 1000 denier max4 blanket with grass loops with a sewn in mesh face guard. Then I throw a piece of max4 cloth with grass lops over the stern. Very effective.

Hitch,

It was good to see you again as well. We didn't get much of a chance to talk, I had mentioned to Dani and Cannon I'd buy lunch. You know how it goes. I'm sure we'll run into each again this season.

Good luck with your season.

Ed

I know how "it" goes. Make sure you apply for those permits, make TMG your first pick and we'll go layout hunt in the reservior on the edge of the spatterdock after cooking breakfast on the Tank.
