I'm looking to carve some minis for xmas tree ornaments for this coming season and would like to try some balsa but have no idea where to get the carving quality balsa. Does anyone have a couple of blocks I could buy and then maybe a source I could check out?

Thanks
Eddie

I have some blocks but don't want to part with them. They came from Midwest Products (midwestproducts.com).

Ed,
Might try checking with any model airplane hobby shop in your area. Craigslist is another option.

Ed: Hobby Lobby has Ecuadorian balsa blocks in their stores. I've used the 3" X 3" X 12" blocks for mini decoys. $9.00 , however every week there is a 40% off coupon in the Sun. paper. I believe they also have 2" X 3" X 12" blocks which might work better for your needs. You could probably make four to six ornaments out of each 12" length block. Also, you can find these smaller craft balsa blocks on e-bay. I'll send you out a PM.

Ed, you might be better off just making the ornaments out of cedar or sugar pine--I have been messing with finding uses for what would be burning wood, and it seems to work pretty good.
Drop me an e mail at
