Any Snow Goose reports?

Just curious how the Snow Goose hunters are doing in the central part of the country. With the rapid warm up this week I'm sure all the snow has melted in MO and I'd bet the geese are getting into NE pretty heavy. 50 here today and I heard 80 in OK so they have to be moving someplace in between.

Nope, haven't seen any. ;) Actually we still have snow on the ground here but it's melting fast and would bet it's gone by tomorrow.

Tim, Ive heard of guys doing real well around my neck of the woods, alot of geese moving north the last couple of days, all snow and ice are gone here, Brian

we have been on them real heavy for the past week and a half in South Texas. There are still LOTS feeding and roosting around the area. Will be heading out in the morning to scull some before they leave the roost! I've been doing very good on ross this year for some reason. I also shot my first really nice eagle head the other day. He made it to the freezer. Gonna be hanging over the fireplace in a few months! Its getting hot here so I'm sure my times coming on loosing birds. Good luck to my northern buddies!

I believe you Mark. I suppose you use extended range 7s this time of year.

Brian,
It's always a little strange for me to think about them being that far east. I know a lot winter just south of there and head to Hudson Bay. Ten years ago we were always covered up with them in the spring but they have been drifting off to the west more and more each spring. We should see more this year unless we get a pile of snow to replace what melted this week.

Your killing me, you sound like my hunting partner Eric. Our friend Matt has a goose lease in El Campo and shot a blue Ross last year. Now its all Eric talks about! Ive seen one in hand, they are nice birds for sure and a very big trophy in the circles I run around in! One day God willing it will happen

We actually had a single Ross's hanging out at our facility, munching clover, for the least 4-5 days. He finally left yesterday afternoon.
Guess he as lost, certainly looked content though.

Almost done with burlapping 36 herters snow geese, have 6 left!

Made a mini E-caller that runs off a 9 volt and the Ipod for the boat.

almost ready!

I openned the season today in Nebraska, a very mild day for mid Feb, 68 degrees and 25-35 mph WSW wind.
The few birds we saw worked well until noon and then the wind really picked up and we only saw 2 flocks from 1-3.
More dark geese than snows by far, fun to work the specks in the spring.
Red faced from the wind and sun tonight, will hit it again on Saturday with a couple more able bodies to help deploy the spread.
The nice weather will come to a screeching halt Saturday night with snow and highs in the 20's forecasted for early next week

Birds have moved into Mound City already. Not sure how many but I heard as many at 50K as of last night. I'm sure it's more by now. A few in N. Indiana already.

Thanks for the reports. Looks like the weather is going to put a stop to our thaw up here so the geese shouldn't move through Nebraska in the west.

Craig,

Can you tell us how you built your Mini-Ecaller, I'm very interested in building one. Is it resonably loud enough ?

Thanks,

Bryan

Here is the link to it, I think I have like $45 in it, I had the Ipod all ready. I can hear it loud and clear at around at 150 yards I'm guessing and I'm hearing impaired according to the Wife.

Looks like I'll get to try it out this week, had a flock of Snows fly over at dusk today. Central Iowa.

I saw snows in Clay and Ray Co. Mo this morning. The fella I met up with saw them in Cass, Vernon, Bates and Jackson Co on his way to visit. No monster numbers of snows in one place maybe groups of 5k, there were that many sitting on my duck club when we drove up to look the place over. Numbers in W. Mo are not close to what is to come but the groups are working well to even a small spread.

Ill be heading to Missouri sometime this week for a few days with a few friends out there im so STOKED to slam some snows!

I am heading out to Mound City on March 13th. Do you think I am going to miss the birds? I see there are 777,000 reported on Squaw Creeks website. I am afraid they might move through with this nice weather moving through. What is your opinions? Thanks in advance.
