I am new to the forum, but I just posted an entry on my scull boat project. I have told my wife and sons that the most happiness I have found, short of marriage and birth, is when I am lost in concentration on a boat project. This is my second scull boat that I have built. (The first one in my twenties was a disaster!) I found the bottom half of a scull boat in Eureka, California (Humboldt Bay). It was split and warped, but I paid the man $60 and carted it away. Plaster, bondo and resin has put it back in shape. I added a full length keel to a partial, which is like my second scull boat from back in the 70's, which was a dream, and I should NEVER have sold it. The dreadful part of this project is that it will need a great deal of fairing and sanding before I can use the plug as a male mold. I have been delayed when my total shoulder replacement had to be replaced again last month. If anyone has an idea for a final topping coat that I can use, I would really like some ideas. I had been set to just use plaster for a one-off boat when a friend asked if he could make one for him as well. That really complicated my project not to mention it will cost me more money and time, but I am glad to share with a duck hunting friend.
