Argo: Getting Stuck

Has anyone on this page had experience with an Argo? Especially getting one stuck? My wife, Marge, age 73, has increasing problems with tearing leg muscles while trying to wade in mud. On our 20 acres below the house the mud isn't good, making it nearly impossible for her to reach the blind. It is becoming hard for me also. So last week I ordered a 6 wheel Argo. The plan is to drive her out to the blind. It should arrive soon after Christmas. I explained to the salesman the type of mud, plus having about a 20 inch water cover over it. He felt I should have no problem. I sure hope not! But I would like to hear from others regarding this, especially anyone who have gotten one stuck. Thanks. Merry Christmas! Best, Worth Mathewson

Worth,

I had an 8 wheel Argo for the same reason. My swamp had that black muck that you sink down about 2 feet with every step. I got it stuck a few times in that mess so I purchased the tank like belt treads for it. It was a tank after that! I never got stuck again after installing them. I don't know if they offer them for the 6 wheeler, but I would highly recommend them if they do.

Hope that helps,

Todd

+1 on the treads. Don't own one but have hunted with guys who do and it makes a world of difference.

If you do get stuck you need a good winch as they tend to be really hard to get out.

Worth - We have 2 argos at the lodge I work at in AK. We hardly use them anymore because of mechanical issues. And also because they've been replaced by the big Polaris 4 seaters. We've never got the Argos stuck. Not much mud. They do rattle and bump along pretty good. The one with tracks has a plow we use on the runway when it snows, thats about the only time we use it now. The other has been sitting for years. I do know we have fuel pump issues often with them. The new big Polaris's and the 4wheelers are what we use mainly for packing big game. Personally, I don't like the Argos. But that's me...

Worth,

Do not let the last post get you down. Mine was very reliable and tough! It may be the difference between personal and commercial use. Mine had the Briggs gasoline engine and it never gave me any trouble. I was in NO way easy on it either. The only trouble I had was a bent axle......and that was my fault ;)

With that much water, you should be floating enough that you are not going to sink into the mud and get bogged down. I think you are going to like your Argo.

If You have 20" of water won't pretty much any kind of small boat be a better/cheaper option?

I had an 8 wheeler for a few years up here, and got stuck in the mud a few times. If you've never driven one before you will be amazed at what you can crawl through. With tracks on those things are unstoppable.

When you get it, do some tests in a place you can get a support vehicle to, and you'll have a better idea of what your limitations are.
