Atlantic White Cedar

Hello Fellows, I am going up to Egg Harbor next weekend to buy some cedar and I was wondering if anyone would know of a lumber yard any closer to the center of Virginia where I can find some carving wood? Years ago when I lived in Jersey it was so easy to buy a tree and they would mill it for me while I waited. I would really appreciate any help with this.

Bill go to www.woodfinder.com. You will find someone that sells carving stock in your area. Also there is a decoy show in Parkertown this weekend at the fire house they usually have a few guys selling cedar there if you are going to Egg Harbor it is worth the stop.

Scott, Thanks a millon that was alot of help I had no idea that site was there. Where do you live in Jersey? I grew up in Keyport up in Monmouth county. I moved down to Palmyra Va. 21yrs ago and the 2 things that I have always missed is my duck hunting on Raritan Bay for divers and the smell of low tide a weird as that sounds. Thanks again and if there is anything I canhelp you with let me know and I surely try. Bill

Bill,
You can try Gates Custom Milling in Gatesville, NC. I have never been to Palmyra Va but it shouldn't be nearly as far as the place you are talking about. Gatesville is just across the NC/Va. line in Northeastern NC just a few miles off Hiway 13.

Best,
Harry

Bill,

I've gotten juniper from Gates through a friend and they had some awesome stuff. This particular stock was a full 7"x5", really clear and a pleasure to carve. They are definitely worth a call.
