AWS shedding

Question for folks with AWS. What is the shedding level? We have a Brit and she's rated as a "mid level" shedder, seems to have two major shedding events during the year, and a constant stream of hair coming off throughout the remainder, but nothing like a lab.

I saw online AWS are rated as low shedding, pretty much the bottom of the level yet still above non-shedding breeds like poodles. Is this really true? All that hair sheds very little?

Unsolicited advice is to think real hard about cold tolerance. Since our seasons run so late and we hunt the salt (takes a lot of cold to freeze it) the dogs hunt in a lot of cold water and weather that they don't in other places. My labs have always been uncomfortably cold hunting late season along the coast and they are considered a lot more hardy than an AWS from my read on things.

Agreed tod. The wife wants to meet beaver when we visit dan and jack next. Appears much less stocky than our friends' chessie who's a big friendly blob but a comfortable 90lbs thin.

She wants a WPG, which I can't agree with. Even with the heater on the boat, which they will both be fighting for.

Open invite. Come for a beer, appetizers or dinner with the kids. We are easy. He is 72 pounds of muscle and bone. He, like a lab, does shed like a mutherfucker.

Have you looked at the curly coat retriever?
I bought one in 1978 it was a great waterdog and pet. It shed 1/2 as much as any lab I have ever owned.
Single digits he was cold, keep in mind we did not have vest back then and the winter were colder.

Way less shedding than the Springer Spaniels I?ve had.

I do have to cut burrs out of the ears and a little on the legs.

Really low maintenance IMO.

I had an AWS and currently have a Chessie and Labrador.

I don?t recall the AWS ever shedding. If he did, it was minimal. They have hair (like a poodle) and should be groomed periodically. We rescued him, and he did not hunt. He was a terrific, funny companion.

The Labrador sheds like nothing I?ve ever seen.

The Chessie sheds her undercoat but it makes tumbleweeds that are easy to pick up. She does blow her coat in the spring and those tumbleweeds are almost comical.
