Hi Steve! I appreciate the good work you are doing. We also band scaup, mostly lessers, and have for years on the Mississippi River. This started with the good work of Al Afton. We bait our traps with corn. This year we anticipate high water which generally causes challenges.

Has anyone come up with any additional conclusions on the low selenium or low hen body weight hypotheses as a driver of population declines in scaup? I know Joel Huener was one of the researchers on the low hen body weight studies for spring females returning to parklands nesting sites. Beyond his contributions as a research biologist, Joel is one heckuva decoy carver as well!!!
